FW: Forward passes [NOT!]   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #178 of 1329 |
All,

This is quite interesting.

Have a read and a look at the video but please don't expect a ref to change his/her perception on forward passes anytime soon.

Jim

Subject: Forward passes [NOT!]

Many of you see Matt Brown's comments from MediaZone.  This week he was raising the issue of the powers of the Television Match Official.  The example he used was of a try that he thought should have been negated because of a forward pass.  You can see the clip at:

http://www.mediazone.com/channel/rugby/jsp/2006/watchncomment.jsp?catId=603&utm_source=MZemail_2Apr07_BrownsColumn&utm_medium=email&utm_content=text_link&utm_campaign=Rugby

In fact, the pass was fine.  I don't care whether or not you watch that clip.  What you all should watch is a great bit of video courtesy of the Australian Rugby Union that has been posted on Utube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RgMlDy2jP9s

It's about 7 minutes long and worth watching till the very end, where they show the visual illusion that occurs when the passer is stopped up immediately after the throw (old hands can pick it up starting at minute 6 for that bit).
