Actaully the only word that means "war arts" is wu shu.  The term martial came from the romans to honor "warrriors", and as i said before was also

Martial arts simply put is war arts.... a martial art is a documented art of war. With that said you are all more or less correct on your assumptions of the

For me martial arts encompasses both hand to hand, short and long range weapons, ancient and modern as well as psychological (i.e verbal Judo). In my line of
