Since my daughter has decided to take early PE at school at 7am, my
riding is screwed up Monday's and Wednesday's. Anyone interested in
riding either West or East for about 35 miles or so at about 18mph?. If
not, I am leaving at around 8:15 from my office.

in case anyone hasn't subscribed to the new group's email lists, it's
easy to do so with a few clicks:
ride announcements: http://listserv.brown.edu/?A0=bcc-announce
general discussion: http://listserv.brown.edu/?A0=bcc-discuss
if you have any difficulty subscribing yourself, let me or casey know
and we should be able to help out.
Now that summer's officially here (at least weatherwise), I'm looking
forward to seeing more new and familiar faces from the community out
on road with us once more!

Hello
We have a lightly used, TREK OCLV (full carbon) 2000 model road bike for sale.
It is sized for
someone about 5' 5", has ultegra 9 speed components, the really nice low-spoke
count ROLF
wheels and the very nice carbon black with blue trim color theme. Never crashed.
Selling it because owner doesn't need two of these!

Connect and share in new ways with Windows Live. Connect now!
Anyone interested in joining me for an easy 3-4 hour ride on Tuesday morning? Meet at Faunce for 10. Please reply or give me a call (401) 429-8173, otherwise I won't head to Faunce first.

You keep typing, we keep giving. Download Messenger and join the i’m Initiative now. Join in!
The BCC Yahoo Group is no longer to be used.
Now that school is starting and we'll have many new people on the
email lists, it is time to move over to the new lists. From now on,
use BCC-ANNOUNCE and BCC-DISCUSS. If you have not joined one or both,
now is the time to do so. The lists are explained here:
http://brown.edu/cycling/lists
Once you have joined, posting to the lists is as easy as sending an
email to bcc-announce@..., or
bcc-discuss@....
(Please only post to BCC-ANNOUNCE when announce rides or other events.
For example, emails about Matt Herz's sexiness in spandex, while
certainly very important, belong on BCC-DISCUSS. Be careful when
replying to BCC-ANNOUNCE messages.)
Note that I will occasionally post to the Yahoo! Group just to keep it
from being deleted until we figure out how to archive the old
messages. (Anyone know how to do this?)
your bcc internet czar,

I've got a meeting this afternoon so I might be late, but I hope that there will be others who will get the ball rolling...
Tuesday night at 5:30
South end of Blackstone Blvd.
Loop around a lot.
Please be good and keep the pace reasonable based on who is in attendance. I hope that we'll have a good turnout as I hear a few familiar faces are back in town. I've put my disclaimer in at the top about my likely tardiness so that Matt H won't get all depressed about being unpopular again. I don't think his ego could stand it.
can't make it but bet you actually like standing around in spandex but just can't admit it. welcome back and have a good ride!

Ok, so my ride at 1030 fizzled. Largely because I overestimated
my ability to find all my bike crap in a short time—so I had no water

Especially without water.
Also no one else showed up. So there was little motivation
for me to take my air-travel induced headache on the road just yet.
Without further ado, I’m taking a headache clearing
nap, and finishing my unpacking once I wake up. At 5pm, I’m going to try
to ride again—this time, I won’t bother with faunce unless I get a
confirmation email or two. While I’m confident that I look hot in
spandex, I think it’s slightly less hot to just stand around in it by myself.
Mostly, I feel silly doing that.
A less verbose translation of above: ride at 5 from faunce.
Email if you are planning to come, so that I know whether or not to skip the
faunce stop.
Hi everyone,
it's a bad day for my poor Gazelle. I left my garage open for about
an hour this evening and in that time someone managed to come into
our back yard and grab my racing bike (while I was home, and in the
back yard mowing the lawn most of the time). I've had that bike for
over ten years, and I really loved it, so any suggestions on how to
find it would be most appreciated. Its a TVM team edition steel
frame, with a blue down-tube, red top tube, yellow seat tube and
fork, and a black rear triangle. I bought it in Holland, so you're
not going to see many bikes like it.
let's see, other relevant info: It has Shimano 600 (vintage 1996)
except for a Sora right front brake hood, new time pedals, a Selle
Flite Saddle, Rigida rims, white handlebar tape.
I'm attaching a picture.
I'm getting a new custom frame from Circle A, so I guess I'll be
without a bike for a while. The worst part is that the bike really
isn't worth all that much at this point, except to me.

I have a pair of Diadora road shoes that are a little small for me, despite the fact that I used them for a couple of years. I wear a women's 8 or 9; the shoes are probably 38 or so in European (although I don't see it marked). They're "Diadora Ergo" women's shoes. They're scuffed and worn but work perfectly well. The insoles are missing (some cheap CVS substitutes would cut down to fit just fine).
Free to anyone who wants them. Ideal for a starving student who can't afford new road shoes right now. They have look cleats attached. Email if interested.
Hi all,
I'm heading out at 9:00 for a 40-ish mile ride (Tim Hortons?). I'll
leave from Faunce at 9:00. send me an email if you're planning on
coming, but I'll stop by in any case. I'm hoping to keep up a
moderate pace, maybe with a few intervals thrown in.

Attention:
We are retiring the BCC Yahoo! Group and moving the email list to
Brown's server. Further, we are splitting the email list in two.
Using Brown's server instead of Yahoo! will make it easier for us to
manage the list. Also, there will be no ads, and in my experience the
Brown server is more reliable than Yahoo! Groups.
The goal of splitting of the list is to better serve the different
needs of the list membership. There will now be two lists:
BCC-ANNOUNCE
A low-traffic list for the announcement of rides, meetings, and other
events of specific interest to the Brown Cycling Club. This list is
ONLY for announcements. All other emails should go to BCC-DISCUSS.
BCC-DISCUSS
A list for club members to discuss all things cycling related. This is
the place to organize a club event, ask for advice, tell a story about
your latest ride, complain about the state of professional racing, or
share a cycling-related news item.
-----
WHAT YOU NEED TO DO: Email me and let me know if you want to be on
both lists or just the ANNOUNCE list. Or, you can add yourselves to
the lists. Links to the list homepages are at
http://brown.edu/cycling/index.php?page=lists
Until everyone is moved to the new lists, keep using the Yahoo! Group.
Hello all.
The cycling club will have a table at the Undergraduate Activities
Fair on Thursday, 6 September from 7pm to 10pm in the OMAC (setup will
begin at 6pm). This is the second day of classes, if I'm not
mistaken, and a particularly important event for freshman deciding
what activities to dedicate themselves to.
We're looking for volunteers to help prepare for the fair and man the
table. We need both recreational enthusiasts and racing team members
as volunteers, although I would personally ask all racers to help if
possible since this is an important recruiting event.
Please e-mail me at graham_anderson@... if you want to help, and
let me know what you would like to do (aka being at the table,
designing handouts, general planning, etc.), and when you may be
available (aka schedule on first day of classes, when you will first
be on campus).
Thanks,
Graham Anderson (the rider formerly known as Little Graham)
Thanks guys, that was a ton of fun!

Is anyone up for a ride tomorrow? I still don't know the loop that well, and I need to get a decently long ride in tomorrow. I'd be up for any ride if you're not up the TH loop (60ish miles would be good).
Below is the teaser for collegiate mountain biking season. Interested in racing at a few events? Interested in watching? Lots of fun all over the northeast in Sept & Oct. For those interested in participating (there are beginner categories), contact your BCC team captains & club leaders (not me!) -- more info will be posted on the list soon (I believe).
Best, Kate.

ECCC,
The best time of year is nearly at hand: Eastern Collegiate Mountain Bike Season!
[[ Upcoming ]]
On deck to start off the season are these can't-be-missed events:
Sep 8/9: Season Opener @ Lehigh University (XC/STXC/DH/DH)
- The Mountaintop Classic's back in action after a short hiatus and better than ever, with cross country, short track, and two downhill events on tap this year. Lehigh's always put on a great
weekend and they're sure to put on something even better this year with the addition of STXC and another downhill course. Pre-reg is by emailed team roster, so check out the flyer and get rolling!
- Once again teaming up with Genesis Adventures' 24hr Churn and
Burn, UConn's near-ideal endurance race is back for yet another year. This is a great event for a team of beginners, being more a test of stamina and guts than technical riding skills. It also
features a great atmosphere with tons of racers and camping on-site. Don't be a wimp, get you and your team signed up today!
- After a smashing debut in 2006, MIT's Wompatuck extravaganza is
back again and even bigger. Located just outside Boston, this is a fast but challenging XC course and wickedly fun STXC venue. MIT will be breaking out the big guns from their road team for this;
all you MTBers out there better rally the troops and make sure they don't show everyone up! Pre-registration is open now!
- Let's just put it out there: UMass loves mountain biking. They
eat it, breath it, live it. You don't want to miss this event, it *is* MTB heart and soul. Custom designed by Alex Duggan and his crew of experts, this, as they say, is the show. Featuring
on-campus XC courses and gravity at Jiminy Peak, they've been out day and night since April fine-tuning the awesome. Be there!
Collegiate mountain biking. It's the best thing ever. For the
uninitiated, here's the scoop:
The ECCC's 2007 MTB season will run from September 8th to October 14th. Most weekends feature multiple events:
Cross Country (XC): Traditional mountain biking. You, in the woods,
on everything from fire roads to gnarly singletrack to evil, evil rock gardens. It's very zen and a test of both endurance and technical riding skills. Most courses can be done on anything from rigids to high tech, tricked-out, dual shock setups.
Short Track Cross Country (STXC): XC on speed. Take a cross country course and shrink it down to a 20 to 30 minute race on a course 45 to 120 seconds long. It's mostly a test of fast twitch muscles,
cornering, and getting around other riders. Completely ridiculous and not very zen, but a total riot to race and watch.
Dual Slalom (DS): A 30 to 75 second, two-up shootout down a swooping course complete with table jumps, berms, and banked corners. It's
about letting it all hang out and sprinting every chance you get. Some courses can be done on XC bikes, though most require special gear, especially to compete in upper categories. Armor encouraged.
Downhill (DH): The biggest speed rush in cycling---a straight drop down the side of a mountain. Courses are ~4 minutes of insane drops, obstacles, and corners in a time trial to the bottom. Almost all courses require tough downhill bikes and tougher riders to
handle the punishment. Going without armor is truly foolish.
All ECCC MTB events run Men's A, B, and C, and Women's A and B categories. Riders do not have to race in the same category for both cross-counry (XC & STXC) and gravity (DS & DH) events.
[[ Not On The ECCC Trolley? ]]
Talk to Mark Abramson (mark@...) or Joe Kopena (tjkopena@...) about starting a team at your school!
Hi everybody. I normally would not spam the list for something like this, but it is for good reason. I am a member of team IBC and this is our way to support our racing, and believe me we do a lot of it! If you would like to buy a ticket you can either contact me or go on the bikereg website.
Up for raffle is one 2008 Ridley X-Fire Cyclo-Cross bicycle built to Palmans team specifications.
This bicycle will be professionally sized to the winner's specifications and comes equipped with Shimano Dura-Ace Components, Fulcrum wheels, Michelin tires and Full Speed Ahead handlebar, stem and seatpost. The X-Fire is a new full carbon Cyclo-Cross bike which is to be released in time for the 2007-2008 Cyclo-Cross season. Belgian U23 champion and Palmans team rider Niels Albert won the final men's elite race of the season in Vorselaar, Belgium, aboard a prototype version of this new full carbon cross frame.
Opt for a chance to own the most advanced Cyclo-Cross bike in the world, Ridley's new for 2008 X-Fire and support grass roots American Cycling at the same time! All proceeds from this raffle go to support Team International Bicycle Centers; a Boston based Men's and Women's amateur Cycling Club. Team International Bicycle Centers competes in Category 2, 3, 4, and 5 bike races across New England and the Nation.
IBC Team members will be selling tickets at races until the drawing date of December 12th 2007. They can also be purchased at www.bikereg.com.
Hello everybody
sorry for the mass email, but i am trying to put together a cross
bike and i am still missing a few things
I wanted to know if anybody has any parts that they would like to sell
i am still missing:
- shifters (9 or 10 speed)
- cross brakes
- handlebars
- stem (100 or 110)
-pedals (maybe crank brothers or time)
- seatpost
.... and probably a few more things that i am not thinking about
right now.
i know i am not giving you the diameters for stem and seatpost, i
just cannot remember those numbers off the top of my head and i got
to look it up, but everything is pretty standard
just drop me an email if you want to get rid of something, cause i
probably need it ;-)
