I'm planning on riding today noon-ish, and Mark & Don's usual Thurs
lunch ride is cancelled. Anyone want to join? Barring suggestions,
level 3ish heading East.
matt
I am tenatively scheduling a ride for this afternoon at 2:30. Leave
from Faunce promptly, 1.5 hrs, level 3.3. Cancelation email will be
sent at 2 if weather is too bad, but I'm still pumped from reading
Lance's autobiography over Thanksgiving so it's going to take a lot to
stop me.

so does this mean casey is aspiring to be the next gulchie -- aka posting
to go riding in monsoon-like conditions like our beloved allison? I
cannot believe that ace rollers, our resident keeper of all things
meteorologic, has not jumped on this**...
anyway, online sources seem to agree that wed should have 100% chance of
thunderstorms with 10mph winds... otherwise, several of us were actually
clamoring to have a b.c.o.d. in the AM...
perhaps there will be a lull in the afternoon to sneak a ride.
but please be careful.
belgian points are cool, but less cool when awarded posthumously!!

Anyone want to ride tomorrow? I have class 1-2pm but am otherwise
free. Let me know when is good for you. Any duration, any direction,
level 3 or higher.
casey
I'm thinking about sneaking out for a quick 1-1.5 hour ride around 2:30 today.
Let me know if you're interested and I'll set an official time/meeting place.
Allison

awesome! elle gulchie (allison), ace rollers (justin), perhaps gewilli
(geoff), and I are planning an afternoon ride (after 12:30pm?) either
north/west... hadn't posted yet since exact details are TBD. all are
welcome to ride, of course :)
so ride time will be chosen based on gulchie's schedule since she was just
offered her dream job [yay allison!!] which means that she is busy
preparing to leave us for D.C. [waaaa-aaaa-ah].
it will be a leisurely level 3... we may pick up the tempo for a few brief
pieces, but the general rule will be a chatty-kathy, easy pace. we will
admire any boot-ay wanting a faster pace as you go off the front! ;)
we'll actually meet and leave from faunce (shocking, I know), since we are
NOT headed east :)
expect one more post about the ride with final details in a bit...

Hi all,
Sorry for the late post. We have decided to ride east at a Level 3 for an hour
or so, leaving Waterman and Governor at 3:15 and meeting Jean on the other side
of the bridge. If you are planning to come and running a couple minutes late,
shoot me a quick email or call my cell phone (574) 229-2156 and I'll know to
wait for you.

Barak and Rob from Prov BIke just delivered a fresh bike and took the
damaged one away.
It's karma. I hammer you guys to support your local bike shop and
SPONSOR) and get a mail order RevMaster myself.
Barak was surprised to find out that the Lemond site references no RI
dealers.
Once again ProvBike goes above and beyond. WCP is credititng Liz and
we bought the bike from ProvBike at a VERY GOOD price.
Support your local bike shop and have a great Thanksgiving.
Bruce
Thanks guys.
We may have it resolved.
I get a lot of calls from irate customers. When your sales and
shipping staffs are as inept as our it's gonna happen. What made it
so frustrating is that I know what shippers can and can't do. I know
how shipping/receiving works as well as how sales and credits go.
WCP was worried about eating the freight. The woman at LeMond (once
I finally got a human) said that they would worry about freight later
and was concerned with keeping the sale. It seems that LeMond isn't
too pleased with WCP. She finally confrence called all three of us
and told us both what LeMond was willing to do and what they expected
WCP to do.
As it stands now a local bike shop (who will remain nameless for now)
is willing to pick up the wrecked bike and sell us a fresh one.
We should have gone local in the first place but from the LeMond site
is appeared that there were no RI dealers. This is not the case.
The shop in question is a very good one and we'll see what shakes out
from there.
Rating as of now 0-10 scale
WCP: 1
LeMond Fitness: 6

Good points Kipp,
also, keep in mind - UPS has a very limited window to make a shipping
damage claim. If you are outside the window, tough luck. Also they
can waive responsibility to the shipper as an improperly packed item.
Watch out for that.
Getting the credit card company involved (if you used a CC) is a good
way to go and might be your only recourse.
The least helpful thing you can do is get beligerant and angry. Yes
it is SOMEONE'S fault, but getting mad at all the other parties
involved may make the situation worse.
Good luck getting it all straightend out!

I'd send this just to Bruce but it might be helpful to others on the list...
If you ordered this with a credit card, you can usually have them take care
of the mess. Just be sure to keep clear documentation of what you
purchased, when it arrived and the condition it arrived in, the steps you've
taken to resolve the problem and include the names and phone numbers of the
people you talked to at WCP, UPS, and LeMond. Also include time and date.
It sounds like a lot of effort but this shows the credit card company that
you were diligent in trying to resolve the matter and the vendors were
uncooperative or non-responsive to a problem they were involved in. Credit
card companies have significant consumer protection and can throw their
weight around for the little guy as long as you do your part with by making
a reasonable attempt to resolve the matter and documenting it.
Of course you should have rejected the box from UPS before you signed for it
and made it UPS's problem right from the start, but there are plenty of
reasonable circumstances where by the time you see the damage, it's too
late. Just make a not of that for the credit card company also!
It sucks when companies point the finger at each other and you get screwed.
Hopefully you charged the thing and you can get it cleared up through your
card member services
Good luck.

Liz' LeMond spin bike showed up last night. Totaled. The front and
rear braces for mounting the feet are both sprung and cracked. The
powder coat is chipped off both braces as well as the bottom cross
bar, seat tube and head tube. The bottom of the box was torn open at
both ends.
The box had been opened and re-taped, the parts box was open, and the
legs were loose in the box. I am very disappointed in the parties
involved.
She ordered it from World Cycling Productions and they were helpful
until they realized it would cost them money to make things right.
LeMond Fitness will not return my calls and UPS will not deal with me
or WCP directly because the bike was drop shipped from LeMond in
Seattle.
This is a $1,100.00 exer-cycle. Right now it is in my dining room in
a box that will not support its own weight. I can't move it (it
weighs 60kilos) easily and nobody is willing to take it back. I
can't get a refund until UPS agrees that it was damaged in shipping
and one of us will have to miss work to meet with UPS.
I am disgusted. I will not do business with WCP again and am

hello everybody
jean mentioned something about either one of us making sure that you
are stranded here you get some pies ;-)
well here is my side of things.
I will have the meal with my ex housemates, something mellow with
good food and nice conversations, so if you feel like coming please
let me know, so that we have an idea about how much food to make.
I am not sure who will be there yet aside from me, my two friends and
two awesome dogs, but it usually turns out being quite pleasant

>> b.c.o.d monday
I'm working under a deadline for wednesday, so, sorry, but I definitely
cannot commit to a b.c.o.d. monday (and for the record, the wed is also
questionable... but there is hope; stay tuned. definitely riding thursday
-- see 3a below :P).
>> sympathy card & flowers
the subset of us who stopped at tim hortons on the ride saturday had the
unfortunate experience of watching an adorable, white dog get stuck by a
car on Hortonville Rd (the left turn we make off the bike path, just after
we exit the swansea mall parking lot). Given the suv's speed, the cutie
must have died instantly, so the trauma is really for us humans stuck with
the mental movie in our heads... The look of devastation on the owner's
face in burned in my memory... can empathize too well!!
Thus, I wrote a note in a sympathy card, signed it from "Brown Cycling
Club", and delivered it today with some flowers. No one answered the
door, so I just left it on the stoop. Just to share so you know...
>> 3 notes
1. obscene & ridiculous (o&r) bcc hottie gear update
---> despite the chilly temps, we had a great showing on saturday (~15)
and copious amounts of Brown gear; however, several folks who own gear
couldn't adapt it to be worn in the chilly temps --- thus, we will
definitely have to have another attempt to actually approach the o&r scale
with great fervor. Perhaps this will coincide when the 9 (yes, NINE) of
us, who [got suckered in to] ordering brown SKINSUITS, reveal them to the
general public!!! ;P
2. welcome to Geoff
---> he rode his first bcc ride to t.h. with us on saturday; and special
thanks to the person who named him for the less typical spelling to
distinguish him (sans nickname) from speedy gonzales or s.gonzie (the new
nickname for jeff h.). Keep our typing lives less verbose!! :P
3. Thanksgiving this thursday
---> 3a. leslie t. and I are planning to ride in the AM in hopes of
increasing our appetite for the day's feast... interested?
---> 3b. if you are in town and without plans, let me or Giulia know and
we can be sure you have merriment to enjoy
---> 3c. have a happy thanksgiving and be careful if you are traveling!
:)
I've noticed that my awesome new Brown Cycling jersey sports several
corporate logos, presumably those of our sponsors. I'm wondering: do
club/team members get sweet deals from any of these companies?
It is going to be a balmy 55 tomorrow. Jean wold upset if a ride did
not go out over the list so here it is.
Details
Route: something north
Duration: 7200 - 9000 seconds (hint 60 * 60 = 3600)
Level: 3
Start: Faunce
Departs: 1:00 PM
Kevin Brosnan
401 451 0917
1 addendum & 1 clarification
addendum: WEAR YOUR BCC GEAR for the t.h.ride (that leaves from faunce,
tomorrow @ 10am)--- mailbox matt** suggested that we should have an
unofficial official competition to see how much brown gear we can have in
one location, and the goal is to have an OBSCENE & RIDICULOUS amount!!!
are you up for the challenge?? so come get your stuff!!! or we can have a
pitstop before the ride tomorrow if needed!!
clarification: to avoid any confusion here, by "consulting", I meant
"whining". a complete shocker, I know!! ;)
**rider formerly known as brown matt [although he may veto the nickname,
despite its adorable origin, and return to brown matt; you know, kinda of
like prince --- perhaps prince matt? :P but then that may be too
"metrosexual"... ??? ah, tbd... ]

SATURDAY
so tomorrow should be like today: beautiful sunshine which deceives you
that it may be really warm, but actually will be in the 38-44 degree
range! tomorrow, the winds should be mild. Completely awesome weather
for this time of year! hope you can blow off work long enough to join us!
-9am, level 2 ride: east bay bike path ride with Norm C (haven't gotten
his normal reminder, but I'm sure you can email him if you are curious
about whether that ride is on: Catnorm1@...)
-10am, weekly t.h.ride (level 3 & up): depart faunce for the normal loop,
either 20 or 40 miles; after "consulting" with casey yesterday, I have
given up hammering until the new year when I have this illusion that I
will routinely sleep for more than 4 hours a night and my body will like
me again.
Thus, you will have options tomorrow: you can either hammer with the front
pack or ride it light and easy with me (or do some of both).
and, also, worthy of noting here: we may have a jason pamental sighting!!
I decided to tell you all about this private email in hopes of really
guilting him in to coming... even if just for the 20 miler... because
he is really cool and gives me a REALLY hard time about EVERYTHING,
which is why he is so hilariously useful...
[well... did it work?? :P]
okay -- logistics galore!!!!
>> here are some facts for you:
-our hottie gear arrived late afternoon yesterday (at end of email is a
list of everyone we think is going to come and claim a bag)
-we are distributing the bags from the tarrlab (metcalf research 229 --
bldg is @ corner of waterman & thayer, dept of cog & ling sci), and no
there aren't any yellow arrows to follow!, but I have faith in you:
tarrlab phone is 401.863.3018 if you get lost
-I bagged each order & then stapled/taped a paper with your name and
amount due on the front of the bag (sorry if I messed up your name -- was
really tired when bagging...!)
-these bags are currently in alphabetical order (by first name) on the
table in the lab for TODAY; after today (or when our lab manager vetos my
use of lab space for cycling stuff :P), they will be our lab's bike closet
(still in 229; just ask where). and yes, I am now confident that I can
just be 1st grade teacher if the whole phd thing fails... :P
-you CANNOT take your bag 'o goodies home with you until you leave a check
for the FULL amount (payable to mike tarr) in the tarrlab; if you want to
pay with cash, you should NOT leave the cash in the envelope! be sure to
give it to a real person (by real, I mean, one that requires oxygen) and
make sure they write your name down and put it with the money so I know.
-checks (made payable to mike tarr) should be placed in the envelope that
says "BCC Checks" -- I know, I know, the name is obtuse.
-EVERYONE: please SIGN that you picked up your bag on my little anal
pickup sheet that lists all of the orders; it's alphabetical by first
name. the names in blue have already paid; I'd like the rest of you to
please write in your check number as well.
-the signature form & the check envelope are located on the heater with
the cycling trophies --- there is a list of the orders on the same
clipboard as the signature form. please review your order to make sure I
didn't make any mistakes when bagging them --- once you take the bag,
forever hold your peace. subsequently, you can whine all you want, and I
will only give you cheese! no exceptions. I have enough bcc ulcers as it
is!! :)
-you can come anytime today, as I think someone should be in the lab to
keep the door open... if you want to call and ensure someone is here, the
tarrlab number is 401.863.3018. I'll be around some this weekend; email
to arrange. Otherwise, bags will still be here next week (but in the bike
closet, not the table).
-i'll send each of you a private email with an invoice with your amount
due next...
-any questions???
[Jason Pamental -- I took your order home with me last night, so if you
promise to give me cycling tips, cagney and I can walk it to your house on

Sorry to fill all of your inboxes with a useless e-mail. I just wanted to share
with you some of the "pro cycling interviews" that I found on Dave Zabriskie's
website... http://www.davezabriskie.com/pages/1/index.htm I thought they were
worth a quick laugh...
Here is an on the bike interview with Charlie Wegelius of the Liquigas Team.
DZ: Charlie have you ever actually had Liquigas?
CW: You mean like when the s*#t comes out of your ass in a Liquid?
DZ: Sure.
CW: I had to quit the Giro in 2003 because of it.
DZ: Thanks for the interview.
Here is another on the bike interview with Michael Rasmussen:
Dave Zabriskie: Do you mind doing a one question interview with me?
Micheal Rassmussen: Go ahead ask me anything.
DZ: Ok, has anyone ever came up to you and called you the chicken, and you said
"no I'm the rooster dammit."
MR: No.
I rolled up next to the Australian rider Stuart O'Grady of Cofidis and here's
what was said:
DZ: Stuart O'Grady can I ask you a question?
S.O: Yes.
DZ: Have you ever done any Kangaroo Boxing?
S.O: Negative
(another rider tells him, "you know that is going on his website?")
S.O: In that case I have done a little pub boxing.
DZ: Thanks.
I do have one more interview to share. It is with Thor Hushvod of Credit
Agricole:
DZ: Thor what does it feel like to have the coolest name in the peleton?
TH: I didn't know it was a cool name.
DZ: Trust me it is.
TH: O.k. then. It feels pretty cool then.
DZ: Thanks for the interview.
I am going for a ride at 1:30. About 2 hours (I need to be back at
3:30) and not a very hard pace. Maybe on the bike path. So... speak
now or be silent forever. If I don't get an email by 1:20 I'll go on
my own.
