Chad died on 4/21/08 just a week shy of what would have been his 26th birthday.

He was credited with Brooklyn's first win in their first ever game at Jamestown NY on June 19, 2001. Chad was drafted by the Mets in the 8th round of the 2000 draft and was the Appalachian League Pitcher of the Year, Rookie League All-Star SP, Appalachian League All-Star RHP.  He also won the Doubleday Award in 2000 for Player of the Year for Kingsport prior to his time in Brooklyn. 
 

No mention about how or why he died so young.

Acording to the obituary  he worked at Plumgood food so his baseball career was over after a short stint in the independent leagues after the Mets released him during the 2003 season.

 To the best of my knowledge, Chad is the first deceased former Cyclone player.

At his age, the only back pages of the paper he should have been mentioned in were the sports pages.
