Julie-
I DID see it and was just about to post about it. It was SOOOO
funny. I saw it at like midnight and was laughing OUT LOUD - my poor
neighbors. Bronson singing and playing Sesame Street songs - life
doesn't get much better does it???

Apparently, he hasn't played his guitar in like a month (per WEEI) -
so it is really good to see him playing.

Hey group -

Did any one catch Red Sox this week on UPN 38 last night? It was on at 10:00pm
and is on weekly. Well last night they did a clip about cookies with Trot, Gabe

surprise to see him playing. He was sitting under a tree with his guitar,

Go Sox.

I saw this on SI.com and thought it was kinda funny... :)

"Another Red Sox note: Bronson Arroyo figures he could have made around
$4 million more to go somewhere else, but he wanted to play in Boston,
so he signed a three-year contract worth $11.2 million to stay. If the
Sox ever (ever!) trade this guy -- he threw 205 1/3 innings as a
starter last year but says he'll go to the bullpen, if needed -- they
should be shot for being backstabbing, disloyal turncoats."

3 more years!!!!! YAY!!!!!

BOSTON -- In a winter in which the Red Sox have spent plenty of time
trying to accommodate the trade requests of Manny Ramirez and David
Wells, it had to be a pleasure for the club to see just how much
Bronson Arroyo wanted to remain in Boston.
In large part because of Arroyo's strong desire to stay in Boston,
the Sox signed the slender right-hander to a new three-year contract
on Thursday.

By agreeing to a deal that will pay him between $11 million and $12
million, Arroyo bid adieu to his remaining three years of arbitration
eligibility, and the new pact will take him right to free agency.

In a unique twist, Arroyo's agent, Gregg Clifton, advised his client
against taking what he felt was a discounted contract.

"I think [Clifton] felt like I was leaving close to maybe $4 million
on the table," Arroyo said. "I think [Clifton] felt like three years,
$15 million is probably would I would achieve if I went through the
arbitration process all three years."

But Arroyo stood up for himself and insisted on taking an offer that
gave him more security.

"I agreed to this contract with strong advice from [Clifton] not to
sign it, simply for the reason that I want to play in this town,"
said Arroyo, who turns 29 next month. "I love being a Red Sox. I
wouldn't have signed a deal [like this] in any other place. The
reason I took a discount was because I love playing here and I want
to stay here my whole career."

In Curt Schilling, Josh Beckett, Wells, Tim Wakefield, Matt Clement,
Jonathan Papelbon and Arroyo, the Red Sox have seven viable starting
pitchers for their five-man rotation.

Wells, another Clifton client, will likely be traded before the
season starts.

Arroyo hopes that his new deal will help prevent him from being the
odd man out.

At the same time, his agents warned him that the new deal could make
him more attractive to a smaller market team in a potential trade.
Arroyo was willing to take the risk, hoping the ultimate reward will
be a lifetime of home games at Fenway Park.

"They didn't give me any guarantees, but [co-general managers] Jed
[Hoyer] and Ben [Cherington] both stated to me that there were no
deals on the table for me right now and they felt pretty strongly
that I wouldn't be traded anywhere any time in the near future,"
Arroyo said. "Not that they could guarantee me any security for the
lifetime of the contract, but at no time in the near future did they
see me going anywhere."

Arroyo hopes that he can make the same progress in the next three
years that he made in the previous three. Remember, the Red Sox
claimed Arroyo off waivers from the Pirates prior to the 2003 season,
and that low-risk move has paid significant dividends.

Complete coverage >
"I'm very happy and pleased that I ended up in the place that I did
coming from Pittsburgh," Arroyo said. "Looking back on my time in
Pittsburgh, I'm definitely glad that I'm here in Boston. In my heart,
I always knew that this day would come, where I would be a solid
Major League pitcher and signing a multi-year deal. I'm definitely
pleased where I'm at right now."

Arroyo broke into the Boston rotation during the club's World Series
championship season of 2004, posting a 10-9 record and a 4.03 ERA. He
cemented his spot in 2005, notching a staff-high 20 quality starts
while winning a career-high 14 games.

While some players shy away from the spotlight of Boston, Arroyo has
thrived in that environment, even moonlighting as a musician.

"Everyone has their own take on the city, how rabid the fans are,"
Arroyo said. "I personally love playing here. I think anytime you can
step on a field and have 35,000 people who are so into the game that
if you don't bring your A game, you're going to get booed, it's fun
for me. It's exciting.

"Every time you come to the ballpark, you know you'd better bring
your best or people are going to criticize you for it. I also love
the city. I love that it's not too big of a town, like New York. It's
kind of a little big town. I also enjoy that fans know their baseball
here and they take it serious and they want a winner."

Arroyo has the flexibility to work as a starter or a reliever, but
the former option looks to be far likelier in 2006, given all the
setup arms the Red Sox have assembled in the bullpen.

The ultimate team player, Arroyo said he'd understand if he winds up
pitching in relief, even though it is his strong desire to go every
fifth day.

"I've said in the past I'd do anything to help the team win, and I
still feel that way," Arroyo said. "I think I've proven myself as a
starter, but if they think that I'm the No. 6 guy again and I need to
pitch out of the bullpen, then that's what I'll do."

Arroyo knows that the 2006 Red Sox will be a different bunch, minus
the memorable personalities of Johnny Damon and Kevin Millar. But he
seems at peace with that, even though Millar and Damon were two of
his closest friends on the team.

"Any time you have a group of guys that you enjoy playing with and
you love playing with, you hate to see those guys go," Arroyo
said. "Having Kevin Millar leave and Johnny Damon and these guys,
it's definitely disappointing, but it doesn't change the fact that
playing in Fenway Park is a joy every single day.

"I feel like the team we run out there is always going to be
competitive," he continued. "I feel like our starting pitching staff
is going to be pretty darn good no matter who we run out there, and
we still have a pretty good lineup to put up some runs. I'm not too
worried about it; I think we're going to be just fine."

Well, I got this article from the Boston Globe for Sunday (12/18) and
it looks like Bronson MAY be staying with the Red Sox!!! :)

Crisp turnover unlikely
By Chris Snow and Nick Cafardo, Globe Staff | December 18, 2005

While the Sox have talked with the Indians about dealing for 26-year-
old Coco Crisp -- who could play any of the outfield positions and
hit leadoff or second -- it appears unlikely that Cleveland will deal
the sure-handed and switch-hitting Crisp.

The Indians, according to a club official, have been contacted by
many teams interested in Crisp, but have not come close to moving him.

Cleveland is high on Crisp, who hit .300 with 16 homers and 69 RBIs
while making $365,000 last season, and the team is in need of
outfield depth. It is pursuing Nomar Garciaparra, who, if signed,
would likely play right field, Casey Blake's position.

Garciaparra, though, appears closer to signing with the Dodgers.

In a deal for Crisp, the Sox likely would have to give up Matt
Clement or Bronson Arroyo. The Indians lost starting pitcher Scott
Elarton (who signed with Kansas City) and are expected to lose Kevin
Millwood to a club with deeper pockets, but they have signed starter
Paul Byrd, formerly of the Angels. That gives the Indians a rotation
with an 18-game winner (Cliff Lee), two 15-game winners (C.C.
Sabathia and Jake Westbrook), and a 12-game winner (Byrd), which
means they probably don't need much rotation help.

This is fresh out of the Boston Herald for today (12/17):

"The Red Sox are having ongoing discussions with the Cleveland
Indians about a trade for outfielder Coco Crisp, with the pricetag
expected to be either starter Bronson Arroyo or Matt Clement. The
Indians are believed to have a preference for Arroyo, who is still
arbitration eligible, while the Red Sox are more keen on giving away
Clement, who is due $19 million the next two seasons and drew the
Indians' interest as a free agent last year.

A trade for Crisp would benefit the Red Sox on a number of
fronts, regardless of the fate of free agent center fielder Johnny
Damon and unhappy left fielder Manny Ramirez. With four years
remaining before becoming eligible for free agency, the 26-year-old,
switch-hitting Crisp can play center or a corner outfield position,
has good speed on the basepaths, has displayed some power and has
shown steady improvement in his last two full seasons with the
Indians. He can bat leadoff and it is clear the Red Sox are
entertaining thoughts of trading for him, especially as a fallback in
case Damon does not re-sign.

Crisp made about $365,000 last season.

The Indians may not be willing to deal Crisp, however, unless
they can land an outfielder themselves, and they are one of the four
teams actively courting free agent Nomar Garciaparra, who would play
the outfield in Cleveland. . . .

The Sox have not advanced much in their talks with free agent
outfielder Juan Encarnacion, according to his agent, Eric
Goldschmidt. The Sox did speak with the Mariners about outfielder
Jeremy Reed, but the Mariners have little interest in Arroyo or
Clement."

Hmm...do I smell a trade with the Indians coming soon?

Here's the latest from the Boston Globe this morning:

"The Sox continue to work on contingency plans, with the team source
indicating talks with the Mariners for center fielder Jeremy Reed have
intensified. The Sox have proposed trading Matt Clement for Reed; the
Mariners have asked for Bronson Arroyo. The Sox have also talked with
the Cleveland Indians about switch-hitting outfielder Coco Crisp; the
Indians also would like Arroyo."

Well, the good news is that since they just dealt Mirabelli, the
likely hood that they will trade Shoppach in a deal is slim. Now, if
we see another back-up catcher coming around - the worries begin. The
Sox are doing a lot of chaning to the roster. I think they still have
about 8 starting pitchers for 5 positions. So, I am sure this is not
the last time we will hear his name around the Buzz!!

This is from Boston.com today...

The Red Sox still have a hole to fill at first base. Might Huff be a
fit there? Under one scenario outlined in Thursday's Boston Globe, the
Sox could go after Huff as part of a larger deal: "The Sox could cut
separate deals with Atlanta and Tampa Bay, sending Edgar Renteria to
the Braves for Andy Marte, then using Marte as part of a bigger deal
with Tampa Bay in which they would not only acquire the shortstop they
have targeted, Julio Lugo, but also first baseman Aubrey Huff and/or
closer Danys Baez. The Sox have shown interest in Huff in the past and
that may be renewed after they failed to acquire Milwaukee first
baseman Lyle Overbay. To make a bigger deal, the Sox would probably
have to offer a package including Marte, catcher Kelly Shoppach, and
pitcher Bronson Arroyo."
