Futsal for as little as $59.50: The Norfolk County Futsal league
announces that its 2006-2007 registrations are now open and players
can participate for a little as $59.50 per session. In 2004-2005 NCFL
registered 74 teams, in 2005-2006 they registered 140 teams and they
expect even more teams during the upcoming season with games offered
to both recreation and premier teams, on Saturday and Sunday
afternoons. Don't miss out by waiting too long, as court times are
well defined and limited to only a certain number of teams on each
day. Visit www.newenglandfutsal.com

Hi Toby:

Brook Sampson refered me to you in regards to securing a Futsol coach for
Katherine Delmar Burke School. We are an all girls private school located
at 32nd Ave. and California St. Our season has already started, but
unfortunately, one of the coach has to resign to pursue another employment
opportunity.

Do you know of someone who might be qualified and interested in coaching
with me a Var. and J.V. Futsol teams at KDBS. Practices and games are
Mondays through Fridays from 3:30-5:00 p.m. with the season ending on May
12. We pay $25. per hour with two hours minimum on each day of practice or
game.

If you know of someone who might be intersted, please have them contact me
immediately at 415 751-0177 vm 302.

Many thanks,

Gilbert Bagaman
Athelic Director and Futsol Coach.

Dear futsal friends,

I want to show my gratitude to all of you who have helped me in
completing this research about futsal. The original document is
written in Dutch, and I dont think any of you speaks Dutch. Therefore
I have made a small summary of the conclusions of my research. The
original document shook up the futsalcommunity in the Netherlands
already. In particular because I conclude that the Dutch Football
Association is in part responsible for the poor performances of the
Dutch futsalteam and the declining role of futsal in general in the
Dutch society.

I send you a summary of the conclusions. If anybody want to have the
original document, send an email to gerbenvanderwaals@...

Regards to all and thanks again!!

I would like to seek assistance on Approved Type of Futsal Court. I would like
to build a futsal court and undecided on the material (rubber or artificial
grass).

Some supplier mentioned that they are FIFA approved material. I wonder if
there is any ruling on this.

   Thanks.

Hello from the Philippines! :)

Would you know of any futsal tournaments open to women's club teams from other
countries...in the year 2008?

Our coach is forming a new ladies' futsal team (no age reqs, so team members'
ages might range from 18 - 30+?), and he would like to set a goal tournament to
train for - two years from now :)

If you could provide a calendar of fustal women's club events that are open to
all countries, could you kindly send it to us? We'd really appreciate it :)

Thanks and more power!

Joanne Ignacio

Im from Arizona, futsal is getting popular by the day over here. I
hear California and Utah has strong youth and adult futsal teams. I
also, hear Mass. is pretty good. Maryland as well. But I talked to my
friend who participated in the US Nationals and he said, California
had some real good teams. Any thoughts out there??

The 2006 Massachusetts Futsal State Cup Championship games are
scheduled to take place at the Dana Barros Sports Complex in
ansfield, Massachusetts on January 14 & 15, 2006. This is a United
States Futsal Federation (USFF)sanctioned championship tournament
and the top two teams in each age bracket and player category
qualify for the USFF Regional Championships being held in
Maryland during February. Teams that are successful at the Regional
Championships shall qualify as eligible to play at the USFF National
Championships held during July, 2006 in Anaheim, CA. This year's
State Cup Event will be co-hosted and sponsored by Essex County
Futsal and Norfolk County Futsal leagues.

In order to participate in the annual Massachusetts Futsal State Cup
Championships you must first be a team affiliated with a
Massachusetts based USFF sanctioned futsal league. Affiliated teams
can register online at www.massfutsal.com. Once your registration is
received our registrar shall contact you with more details.

More and more coaches hear and see the benefits first hand that
playing Futsal has on their young soccer players. This is evident
in the United States, at large, and in Massachusetts, in particular,
by the growing number of leagues, teams and players who are
subscribing to the training and competitions offered by the numerous
USFF sanctioned futsal leagues.

In July of 2005 the Massachusetts Futsal Association was represented
by 14 teams that qualified for the United States Futsal Federation
20th Annual NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS and came away with some very
impressive results.

Five Massachusetts futsal teams came away from the national
championships held in Anaheim, California as medalists, placing
among the top three teams in the country in their respective age
division and two teams were crowned national champions.

The success our state enjoys at the national level speaks for
itself. We are very proud of the commitment these teams have made
to ascend to the top of the national standings within the United
States Futsal Federation. The establishment of a substantial and
legitimate leagues such as the Catholic Youth Futsal League, Essex
County Futsal, Fall River Futsal, Norfolk County Futsal and the
recently established Boston Futsal League, serving the greater
Boston metropolitan area, serve to demonstrate the desire that a
growing number of players have to play the sport of Futsal and also
solidifies the acknowledgment of more and more coaches and club
owners who are coming to understand the fantastic skills that
players are developing while playing futsal.

The Massachusetts Futsal Association is the local representative of
the United States Futsal Federation (USFF), which under the banner
of United States Soccer, is the national governing body for Futsal
in the United States.

Futsal is the only international form of indoor soccer approved by
the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA).

The Norfolk County Futsal League will host this year's annual
Massachusetts Futsal Association's United States Futsal Federation
(USFF) Referee Certification and Recertification class at the Dana
Barros Sports Complex at 31 Oxford Rd., Mansfield, Massachusetts on
Saturday, November 12th from 1-7 pm.

This is the only such USFF certification class to be presented this
year in the state of Massachusetts. All USFF sanctioned futsal
leagues and programs are required to use certified referees.
Attendance at the annual class is a pre-requisite to receiving
recertification for existing referees and for certification of new
referees. An official representative from the United States Futsal
Federation shall be on hand for the classroom instructions. The USFF
Referee Certification Clinic by Alex Para, President of the USFF
will take place from 1 pm to 5 pm and the USFF Referee Re-
Certification will take place from 5 pm to 7 pm.

In addition, this year, the director of Norfolk County Futsal
League, Bill Sampaio who is also the National Director of Coaching
of the United States Futsal Federation shall conduct a Coaching
Seminar that focuses on coaching in a youth futsal league from 1 pm
to 5 pm.

In a recent press release by Vincent Mauro, Director of Referees for
the USFF, he stated that, "Since 1982, U.S. Futsal has developed and
trained referees. Since 1983, some of these Futsal referees have
gone on to referee International competitions, and have also been
involved in directing the Championship Finals in the Futsal World
Championships of 1985, 1988, 1996, 2000 and 2004. The 1992, FIFA
Futsal World Championship had the USA participating so a U.S. Futsal
Referee would not have been eligible. U.S Futsal has taken great
pride since its inception to develop qualified Futsal referees. This
year U.S. Soccer has instituted its indoor soccer referee program
and decided to add Futsal to that program. U.S. Soccer needs to show
that it has a Futsal program, because it also wants to nominate FIFA
Futsal referees . Nevertheless, only U.S. Futsal Referees shall be
used on all affiliated Futsal games."

Interested individuals may pre-register for these classes online at
www.newenglandfutsal.com or they may contact New England Futsal
Referee Coordinator Loretta Chin by email at lorettachin@....

Inquiries may be directed by telephone to Coach Bill Sampaio at 774-

Hi Ryan,
Congratulations on this great accomplishment.
I believe the students will benefit a lot from it and have enourmous
fun.

Here are some tips. Hopefully others will share their inputs as well.

2. Drills that focus on 2 parts of the feet not so much used in
outdoor soccer: the sole of the foot for trapping and the toes for
shots as the ball rolls away from you.

3. Try your Futsal Goals at http://www.soccer-
mania.com/kwikgoalfutsalgoals.html They have official ones and
portable ones.

4. Balls at http://soccerpro.com/acatalog/Futsal_Balls.html

5. Contact the US Futsal federation for information on the N/S
Carolina area at http://www.futsal.com/

Enjoy it.

I have the opportunity to introduce futsal as an undergraduate
leisure skills class at a large university. I was wondering if you
have any helpful information for me as I introduce it as an
undergraduate course.

1. Can you recommend any good training materials pertaining to
futsal (videos, books, etc.) - please tell me where I can order them.

2. Do you have any drills that you find particularly helpful for new
players to get the feel of the game.

3. Can you recommend quality (but not to expensive) portable futsal
goals that can be safely used on a hardwood basketball court.

4. What ball would you recommend for training use (need to buy a
dozen or so balls for individual practice) and what would you
recommend for a match ball (again, playing indoor on hardwood court).

5. Is anyone aware of any futsal clubs or tournaments in the
Carolina area?

Please feel free to give any other advise that you think would be
helpful as I try to get something started here. I have experience
playing futsal (traveld with team in Sao Paulo for several weeks)
but this is my first opportunity to teach the game. We hope to
offer the class in Spring 2006.

Thanks!
Ryan

The New England Revolution has invited The Massachusetts Futsal
Association in conjunction with New England Futsal to be on hand for
a pre-game celebration showcase of the sport of Futsal with
demonstration games and mini-clinics hosted by Bill Sampaio,
Director of Coaches for the United States Futsal Federation .

Join us with the Revolution on Saturday, September 24, 2005 to
celebrate Sierra Mist Dribble, Pass and Score Night sponsored by
Sierra Mist. Children from around the area will participate in the
halftime show and demonstrate their soccer skills! Don't miss the
action!!

During this past July, fourteen Futsal teams from Massachusetts
participated in the 20th Annual United States Futsal Federation
National Championships held in Anaheim, California. Five of these
teams came away as medalists and two teams were crowned National
Champions. All of these teams will be on hand to demonstrate the
game of Futsal as part of a "Futs-on" pre-game & mini-clinic.

United States Futsal Federation sanctioned leagues in our area who
will be represented at this event include the Catholic Youth Futsal
program of Fall River, Massachusetts, the Greater Fall River Futsal
League, the New England Futsal Academy of Mansfield, MA, the Essex
County Futsal League and the Norfolk County Futsal League.

This will be a fun-filled event and will provide tremendous exposure
to the sport of Futsal here in Massachusetts and New England and we
are excited about this opportunity to showcase the benefits of, and
excitement for, the great sport of Futsal. Gillette Stadium has a
seating capacity for some 68,000 people and this type of exposure is
just tremendous for Futsal!

Futsal is the game of skill, speed and goals that soccer's Ronaldo
credits for Brazil's victory at the 2002 World Cup finals.

Futsal is played on basketball size courts with five players per
side. The futsal ball is also very different - with a low bounce, it
is heavier and smaller forcing players to use skill to manage it.

The beauty of futsal in New England is its ability to be played off
season on indoor courts. The unique ball means you play a very
different game as well with more ball control and quick, short
precise passing. A player is always moving and always involved in
the game. As Coach Bill says to his players, "If you're not moving,
you're not playing!"

We want people to get out there and really enjoy this great sport.
Futsal has had a significant role to play in the development of
soccer. Soccer greats from Pelé to Zico - all who credit futsal as
being crucial to their their own skills development.

With this opportunity to showcase New England Futsal to tens of
thousands of attendees at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts
we hope to continue to light the fire and passion for the game of
Futsal here in Massachusetts & New England.

Former B.M.C. Durfee High School student Wagner DeOliveira has been
signed to play soccer for the Bulldogs of Union Baptist University
in Jackson, Tennessee.

De Oliveira arrived in the USA in 2002, at the age of 18, enrolled
as a senior at B.M.C. Durfee High School in Fall River, MA but did
not play soccer as it was at the end of the soccer season. He
returned to Brazil later in 2002 enrolling at the Federal University
of Ouro Preto, majoring in Arts. He spent two seasons playing soccer
at the University level in Brazil before transferring back to the
Fall River area. Last year, De Oliveira competed in the Norfolk
County Futsal League in Mansfield, Massachusetts in a Mens' division
finishing in 2nd place at the Massachusetts State Cup as the Pride
FC Mens Team from Fall River coached by Bill Sampaio. He went on to
play at the United States Futsal Federation Regional Championship
games held in Monroeville, PA as part of the Santa Clara Mens Futsal
squad based out of the Fall River & Somerset, Massachusetts
communities.

Coach Bill Sampaio says, "It was right away that you can see what a
top caliber player Wagner De Oliveira is on the Futsal pitch.
Futsal is a sport that he has played since he was 6 years old. This
past May I encouraged him to consider playing for Union University
and I contacted my friend Coach Clovis Simas at the University."
Coach Simas is a World Futsal Champion playing for Brazil, capturing
that title in 1996. Coach Simas was quickly impressed with Wagner's
technique and his keen desire to score goals. Wagner was offered a
full scholarship to attend Union University and will travel to
Jackson Tennessee on August 7th to join a strong Union University
Bulldog soccer squad.

Coach Clovis Simas of Union University & Head Coach Marcelo Galvao
of Oklahoma Baptist University, have both urged coach Bill Sampaio
to encourage more local players to consider their universities.
Sampaio, the National Director of Coaches for the United States
Futsal Federation expects to encourage and assist more local
standouts to these and other universities as well in the future.
Coincidentally, Coach Galvao, is a former futsal player and is
currently the President of the Oklahoma Futsal Association.

Wagner's younger brother Victor is also a lefty, like his brother,
and plays soccer for Coach David Plourde at B.M.C. Durfee High
School in Fall River. "It will be nice to play with my brother on
the same team in the near future... If he can make it", says Wagner,
jokingly.
