The Norfolk County Futsal League has officially registered it's 74th
futsal team for league play in 2005, making this the largest such
futsal league in all of Massachusetts and perhaps even the largest
such league in all of New England.
Norfolk County Futsal League (NCFL) is run under the direction of
Bill Sampaio, who is also the National Director of Coaching for the
United States Futsal Federation. NCFL is an affiliate futsal league
of New England Futsal (NEF) and operates as a United States Futsal
Federation (USFF) sanctioned league. The United States Futsal
Federation is the officially recognized national governing authority
that oversees all Futsal league development, policies and
competitions throughout the United States under the auspices of the
United States Youth Soccer Association and FIFA.
In this our inaugural year, the NCFL placed teams as Massachusetts
State Champions or as 1st Runner-ups in all divisions of play,
ranging from U10 to Men's Open at the 2005 Massachusetts State Cup
Championships played in January 2005. Additionally, NCFL coordinated
sending 13 of it's league's futsal teams to compete at the United
States Futsal Federation's Region 1 Championships held in
Monroeville, PA in February 2005. Twelve of those teams advanced
into the semi-final match round play and 3 teams, including the
Pride FC BU10 of Fall River, New England Futsal Mens team of Fall
River & the GU16 Shooting Stars of Natick made it to Final round
match play. All three of these teams qualified for the United States
Futsal Federation's 2005 National Futsal Championships that will be
held next July in Anaheim, California
Norfolk County Futsal League's regular season games are played on
four adjoining futsal courts each weekend at the state of the art
Dana Barros Sports Complex in Mansfield, Massachusetts.
The NCFL sponsored New England Futsal Academy offers personalized
skills and technical training to futsal players from age 6 through
18. Training sessions are held on weeknights a the Forekicks Sports
Complex in Norfolk, Massachusetts. Training sessions are highlighted
by coaching direction given by Coach Bill Sampaio and Professional
Futsal Goal Keeper Julio Cesar Franco.
"This is quite a milestone for our organization", says Coach
Sampaio. "We have stepped in and stepped up big time and we are both
proud and humbled to know that in some small way we have helped to
properly develop the sport of Futsal in the New England region". "In
addition to the Norfolk County program, our Fall River Futsal and
Catholic Youth Futsal League programs continue to attract more and
more players and teams. Our East Bay program is now in the formation
stage and we are hopeful that this league will follow in the steps
of these three successful programs as well", says Sampaio.
