When you say the swirl, do you mean what we call the "figure 8",
where the flankers and the pivot rotate to predetermined positions
after passing the ball?
Anyway, age should not be the only determining factor wether you
should teach it or not. Tecnical ability (ball control and passing
ability and the capacity to learn are also very important)
I teach any set moves by this method:
1) Showing the players a video of teams executing the move in a game
2) Sketching it on a white board and/or magnetic borad
3) Get on the court walking the players through the various movements
4) Introducing a ball to be thrown from player to player as they walk
again through the movements (no passing at this stage)
5) Introduce a Futsal ball to be passed as they again walk through
the move
6) As in number 5 but now we accelerate the ball and player movements
The idea is for them to see it performed properly first, also 1 and 2
cover some of the learning styles of the players. It is essential
that they know where to run first before we introduce the ball.
