Lake Mary Ride   Message List

Friends and Fellow Cyclists:

You and your friends and family are invited to join Kathy
Mills near Flagstaff on Sunday August 22nd for an
unofficial road bike ride near Lake Mary. By unofficial, I
mean no club or organization is sponsoring the ride and it
is FREE to participate. (But PLEASE wear a helmet!!)

This is a chance to escape the heat and ride in the green
pine trees! (It is also my attempt to celebrate my
birthday, which is on the 23rd!) The terrain is slightly
hilly and the elevation is 7100 feet. Daytime highs in the
80-90’s, lows in the 50s, and chance for thunderstorms.

The ride will start at the Lake Mary boat ramp parking lot
at 8:00 AM. To get there from I-17, simply look for the
Lake Mary Road exit before you enter town, turn right to
head east to Lake Mary. From the north (in town), take
Milton Road (main road north south that turns into I-17)
south to Forest Meadows, turn right (west) then take the
next left on Beulah Blvd. Follow Beulah under the freeway
(I-40) to Lake Mary Road and then turn left (east) under
I-17 and west to the lake.

The course will head southeast and around Mormon Lake and
back for a total of about 30 miles. If you want more
miles, you can ride from the south part of town
(Walmart/Basha’s parking lot along Beulah Blvd) and get in
a metric century. Or you can ride past Mormon Lake to
Happy Jack (ads 24 more miles round trip and more hills).
For fewer miles you can turn around and not ride around
Mormon Lake.

I will have bagels for breakfast at the start (please RSVP)
at 7:30, and some water and snacks to share. There are
restrooms at the lake parking lot, but no running water.
There is a store at Mormon Lake and there is the Mormon
Lake lodge for food and restrooms half way on the ride.

After the ride, you can find a shower for a small fee at
the Mormon Lake Lodge, spend the day in the pine trees, or
check out the Town of Flagstaff.

If you plan to arrive on Saturday night or spend the
weekend in Flagstaff, there is a Mountain Bike festival
going on and there are many trails to hike nearby. I will
be staying at the Hampton Inn Suites ($95 per night – and
this is a lower rate!! Talk about tourist prices!) I will
check into the Cowboy Dinner Theater at the Mormon Lake
Lodge or the Black Bart’s Steakhouse for showtimes on
Saturday night, if anyone is interested.

Feel free to forward this to anyone else you think may be
interested.
