players who have scored more than 1,500 goals and more
than 4,000 points while slashing about $15 million off
their bloated payroll, Fletcher might be in the market
for two dozen life preservers. While the effective
goaltending tandem of Sean Burke and Robert Esche will
return, the rest of the team currently breaks down like
this: <br><br>-- First line: Sergei Berezin, Michal
Handzus and Shane Doan, who must still be
signed.<br><br>-- Second line: Ladislav Nagy or Mike Johnson,
Daymond Langkow and Claude Lemieux, who at 35 sticks out
like a sore, aching, overpaid thumb in this
lineup.<br><br>-- Third line: Brad May, Trevor Letowski and Landon
Wilson, an effective trio last season that likely will
survive all the jumbling. <br><br>-- Fourth line: Todd
Warriner, Sullivan, Daniel Briere, Mike Sullivan and Tyler
Bouck are among the candidates.<br><br>-- Defensemen:
Teppo Numminen, Ossi Vaananen, Paul Mara, Danny Markov,
Todd Simpson, Radoslav Suchy, rookie Kirill Safronov
or someone with equal experience (none).<br><br>So a
team that scored 214 goals last season, that scored
two goals or fewer 48 times, that did all that with
Tkachuk and Roenick, certainly looks like a team that is
hard-pressed to find 200 goals on its current roster. Trying
to find one power-play unit is hard enough, let
alone two. . . .
