It is a sad time for boxing. Arguello was classy. an asset to the sport. As a
great champion, and broadcaster, as an analyst, he was a great ambassador for
our sport! I had the pleasure of meeting him several times at Johnny Tapia
fights in Albuquerque. He'd always take time for the fans, and goof around with
me on the camcorder for my little public access boxing show. He is missed. It
is a tragedy.

He was recently elected mayor of Managua, the capital of Nicaragua. Sad day for
me personally, as he was one of my all time favorite fighters and, thanks to my
inlaws who are from Nicaragua, sent me a personalized photo for my bday last
year.

everything that was right in boxing and represented the best of Nicaragua. His
class, courage and humility were always an inspiration and though he did have
his deamons outside the ring, he showed the same will and courage he exhibited
within the ring outside it as well. He conquered his drug problems and rose back
to the top culminating with his political victory last year.
