RE: [boxingonvideotape] UFC/MMA

IMO it wont end boxing, but it will probably surpass it in its popularity. It attracts the mainstream or casual fan who just want to see blood and violence. However, technical or true fans will appreciate the 'science' of boxing. Compare it to baseball...casual fans think it's a boring sport. True fans know the technicalities and the game within the game. And baseball will never die; it may have been surpassed by football as the national pastime, but the numbers are still as strong as ever. The same is true with boxing; if we can bring boxing back to network television and clean the sport up, perhaps with a national commission (which will probably never happen), and maybe find a few athletes to act as the face of the sport, then boxing can rise up and be nearly as popular as it was back in the 80s and before.

But that's just my opinion.

What do you guys think about the rise in popularity of "Mixed Martial
Arts"? Could it mean the end of pure boxing as the favorite combat

There is no way boxing will leave the map. I like MMA, but I will never collect those fights. I will watch it when I can, but that is all. MMA needs 50 to 100...
