I just moved to Seattle and want to know if the games come on at the
same time as they are scheduled at redsox.com or do they come on
earlier since we're on the west coast? Does the spitfire grill show
every red sox game or only ones on certain days?
That's probably the set-up at both. I was able to add NESN to my satellite package at home for just an extra $5 a month. But, they blacked out all of the actual games so you'd buy the MLB package for $180. Watched the pregames and postgames for a couple of months and then dropped it.

Spitfire has the MLB package which will show the game, but not necessarily the NESN broadcast (although I’d be willing to bet the Boston broadcast will be featured). I thought that was the deal at Jillians as well, but I might be mistaken.
I’m not 100% sure I’ll be able to make it to Spitfire tomorrow, but if I can swing it I’ll join you all. There won’t be any back room parties until the end of the season (although we might have some coming up depending on how the Celtics do). So keep an eye out for Sox fans in the front area.

Tomorrow we
kick off our Adopt-A-Player program. Check out the guidelines in our forum,
select your player(s) and let the fun begin. The Internet addresses for the
Red Sox minor league teams are also posted in the same thread.
We are also
very interested in having members of the site posting articles on our front
page. If you like to write about interesting players and/or events in Red Sox history
or current Red Sox or MLB events, send a note to me (or any moderator) and we
will help guide you through the process.

Do they get NESN at Spitfire, or is the game being carried on some other network?

Lucy and I will be there! Game is at 7 pm. Perhaps we'll see you
there. I'll put my Sox road jersey on and Lucy will be rockin her
Mike Lowell shirt. Go Sox!

“The Dodgers will begin the season with one of
the deepest rotations in the league, one that was largely set going to spring
training. The battle to join Brad Penny,
Derek Lowe,
Chad
Billingsley and Japanese import Hiroki Kuroda
in the fifth spot became Esteban Loaiza's
to lose when it was made clear that Jason Schmidt
wouldn't be ready for the start of the regular season, and Loaiza has done
nothing this spring to lose it.”
“Lester couldn't get the job done in his first start of
2008, as he gave up four runs over four innings in the loss,
but the early stumble hasn't tarnished Boston's outlook for the tall lefty this
season.
"Lester looks strong to me ... he just looks like a big,
strong man right now, and that's changed," Sox catcher Jason Varitek
said. "I wouldn't say we're looking for great things, but we're looking for
him to grow into who he is and that's all. I don't think we should put
expectations on him, but just let him be who he is and he'll be OK."
“RHP David Aardsma
was impressive in Wednesday's loss to Oakland
and may have sewn up a spot on Boston's
25-man roster with his 1 2/3-inning, three-strikeout performance. Aardsma
profiles as a hard-throwing reliever capable of getting his heater up into the
94-96 mph range, and the Sox could use another live arm available for duty in
the 'pen.”
“OF Coco Crisp
made the start in center field Wednesday against hard-throwing Oakland RHP Rich Harden,
but Red Sox manager Terry Francona wouldn't
commit to a particular pattern of playing time for Crisp going forward. The San Diego Padres continue to be mentioned
as a possible landing spot for the displaced outfielder when/if he is dealt,
but it appears the speedy Crisp will start the season on Boston's 25-man roster.”
QUOTE TO NOTE: "For
other people, it's a great year. That's in the past. Talk to me (about) right
now. If we want to repeat we're going to go and do it. Everything is possible
in life. I'm ready to go. I don't know about other people. I'm ready to go."
-- Manny Ramirez talking about
last season, arguably his worst offensively in the major leagues.
“Imagine for a
minute that you are sunning yourself in Florida,
limbering up to go back to work. You are placed on a flight to Japan, stay there for a few days and go to work,
then fly to Los Angeles
where you suddenly have no need to work again. You then fly to Oakland where
work rears its ugly head, then hop on a plane to Toronto for a few days, then
to Boston, where Miguel Cabrera is waiting… all in the span of 19 days.
Hello Everyone. The Red Sox are 1-1 to start the 2008 season for
which there are many reasons to be optimistic.
It is tough to think that the Red Sox will just allow the players
who don’t make the team to just be waived. Aardsma and Lopez are out of
waivers. Don’t know if Corey has a minor league contract to protect him
or if he has an opt out. With the promising performance of Moss, it seems as
if
a trade is becoming highly likely upon the return of the Red Sox to
the USA.
Brandon Moss has been sent back to AAA and shall report upon
return from Japan.
OK, it is getting close to time to start up the Adopt-A-Player fun
for 2008. The following explains the process. Once April 1st comes
and the minor league rosters are set, the process can begin.

Well a Happy St. Patrick's Day to ya'll. The Celtics are the division winner. 52-13 right now, and 18 and a half games in first place with 17 games to go. GO GREEN.

FYI – Spitfire does have the NBA package on their TV system. Just ask a bartender to put the game on. I’ve gone down there a couple of times to watch games.
Since these upcoming regular season games are only important for keeping the top seed, I’m thinking we’ll have a gathering for one or two games in the first round of the playoffs – particularly for weekend games. If the Celts make it to the Championship, we’ll likely be there in force for each game.

Glad to hear there’s lots of interest in Celtics gatherings! It’s been a long time coming. We’ll probably have them once the playoffs start in April. I’ll be checking in with Spitfire soon about it. Will get back to you all later in the month.

Gang!
Thanks so much for your overwhelming response to our annual
Sox/Mariners outings! Almost all the tickets were reserved within the
first two weeks since my first announcement.
I do want to let you know that I have a small number still unreserved
at this point (about 8 for the May game and 12 for the July game). If
any of you (or you know someone who) want additional tickets or held
off from ordering earlier, please don't hesitate to make a
reservation. I can also put names on a waiting list as it may happen
that some tickets will be relinquished.
Please contact me off the list at cporter@... if you'd like to
make an order. I am still expecting to receive the tickets sometime
in April. I will send them out shortly after receiving them.
Go Sox!

By now most of you know that we lost Asante Samuel to the Eagles. Not
a big surprise to me frankly. He was a great player for The Pats for
a few years, but now he's into making the big bucks that was sure to
be offered to him by another team. Can't say I blame him.
But losing Randall Gay sort of surprised me (to The Saints).
Stallworth is also gone (to The Browns). Other than the Tedy Bruschi
and Kelly Washington signings, things have been eerily quiet in the
Patriots world. Hopefully we'll get some good news soon.

Hideki Okajima added the doki-doki to his arsenal, now Dice-K is adding the
two-seamer. Why? Yeah, yeah:
“His fastball was probably the
best, but all of his stuff was great,” Kottaras said. “He had
command of everything. Everything was on.”
But this is spring training. It’s not even
March yet. Instead of developing a new pitch, why not develop being able to
maintain control over a full game and season.
Red Sox finally seem comfortable in their own
skin
“It was difficult to tell by employing that time-honored
scientific formula of walking around and talking to people at the minor league
complex (where the team works out until spring training games begin) whether
the Boston Red Sox had
swept the Colorado Rockies in
October to win their second World Series in four years or won 85 games, just a
shade above the Toronto Blue Jays.”

Steinbrenner might not be talking anymore, but his son Hank is. Hank, or
as I prefer to call him, George Jr., isn’t buying the whole ‘Red
Sox Nation’ phenomenon. “Red Sox Nation? What a bunch of
(expletive) that is. That was a creation of the Red Sox and ESPN, which
is filled with Red Sox fans. Go anywhere in America and you won’t
see Red Sox hats and jackets, you’ll see Yankees hats and jackets.
This is a Yankee country. We’re going to put the Yankees back on
top and restore the universe to order.”
Hey, George Jr…I love the swagger. No one likes a ‘smack
running’ owner more than yours truly…but let me once again
remind you, the entire universe is not centered in New York City. Things that matter
really do happen outside ‘the Apple’. As hard as that may be
for you to believe…and as far as the nation being an ESPN
creation…they must have skipped over that during my company
orientation. I didn’t get that memo. The Budweiser hot-seat is an
ESPN creation, the Red Sox Nation isn’t.
That was born out of their winning it all twice in the last four
years…and I’m here to tell you…’chowd’ fans
are everywhere. Go to an Angels game out here, and it’s Fenway
West…and you know why, George Jr.? It’s because they’re
winning and you’re not. They’re better than you. The
‘chowd nation’ is not a figment of your imagination. How do
you like them apples, George Jr….ehhhh.
