Hi Gang,
I hope your hangovers from last Sunday's game have dissipated and
you're ready to cheer on our team again. Frankly I'm sick of hearing
all the pundits talking about last week's game and the now infamous
"4th and 2" call. Although it's actually been somewhat interesting to
hear all the different takes on the call and that game in general
(more mixed views than I would have expected). But the team (and the
fans) need to move on and focus on the present and the future. The
last thing I'll say about the Colts game is that I hope it bodes well
for an opportunity for sweet revenge in the playoffs.
The Patriots have a big game this Sunday against crybaby Rex Ryan and
his New York Jets. The Jets came away with a win against the Pats
when our boys were still figuring out their game. Since that game,
the Patriots have been more or less on the way up while the Jets have
been on the way down. This week's game is in Foxboro. I trust the
team is pretty angry about last week's game and pretty angry that they
let one slip away from the Jets a few weeks ago. Frankly I think they
are going to destroy The Jets this week and if that happens, I will
truly relish it since the Jets are one of my most hated teams. It's a
division game so it makes the game extra important as we are now in
the second half of the season. While The Pats are still in the
drivers seat for the AFC East crown, it's certainly not a "gimme" that
they will get it. The Dolphins are a pesky team that will fight to
the end and The Jets could conceivably straighten things out. So our
boys have to go out and play their "A" game from here on end. May
they bounce back from last week's loss with a big win this Sunday (and
every Sunday to come!). :)
Game time is 1:15PM this Sunday. Strangely it's a late game - not
what usually happens for 2 east coast teams. And so this game will
not be on Seattle broadcast TV as the Chargers/Broncos game will be
shown instead on CBS. So you'll need to watch it on Direct TV.
Good to see 25 fans at Spitfire last Sunday. We were in the front
room for the night game, but will be back in the back room for this
week's game. See some of you there this Sunday.
Go Pats!
Chris
I laughed out loud watching this. This is Nick Stevens aka Fitzy's
take on the NBC pre-game crew (before the Pats/Colts game).
HILARIOUS. It's the first time I've been able to laugh since the game
last night.

As much as it pained me to do so after watching that hideous loss to the Colts
tonight, I have finally gotten around to putting some of my Patriots in London
photos on the Photos section of our site.
I can't make any comments for now about that stunner of a game. All I can hope
is that The Pats can get some sweet revenge in the playoffs later this year. A
big game against The Jets (in Foxboro) is next Sunday. More on that later.
Chris
I'm sure most of you are at least somewhat familiar with Bill and his work. If
not, you can read his stuff here:
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/simmons/index.
Basically, he's a huge Boston sports fan who has become one of ESPN's premiers
columnists. He's in town this Tuesday night, 11/17, on tour supporting his new
book, "The Book of Basketball". He'll be at Sport Restaurant, right across from
the Space Needle, from 7-9PM. While I know he was planning on talking primarily
about Seattle's loss of the Sonics, I'm sure he will probably still be just as
shell-shocked as we all are after tonight's loss and be willing to talk Pats.
He'll probably welcome a couple of sympathetic ears.

Hope to see some of you there.

Hi All,
It's been nice to see our boys on a roll! The Pats took down a tough
Miami team last Sunday and go into Indianapolis with a 3 game winning
streak for a huge game against The Colts. The Colts are
unsurprisingly undefeated although The Patriots perhaps give them
their toughest test yet this week. Their defense (particularly their
secondary) has been depleted with injuries. Hopefully Brady and co.
can take advantage of that and keep on their winning ways. It goes
without saying that I would LOVE to see them not only beat the Colts,
but beat them in Indy.
Game time is at 5:20PM. It is a nationally televised game on NBC.
But I hope a lot of you will decide to join us at Spitfire on Sunday
night. It's a big game and it deserves a big crowd cheering
together. Numbers have been down a bit the last couple of weeks
(understandable since they were both nationally televised games). But
let's not get complacent fellow fans. Let's whoop it up together on
Sunday. Since it's a night game, we'll likely be in the front room
this time (the game will be on many TV's with the sound up).
Go Pats!
Chris
P.S. I'll be getting the London photos up before the end of the week.
I promise! :)
Wonder if the Sox will keep him on the
roster or buy him out?

Yeah, I don't think anybody actually expected the Sox to exercise their option, which was for $5 million. Tek is going ot have to do some soul-searching and decide if he wants to finish his career with the Sox as a $3 million a year backup catcher or try to find a better deal elsewhere. Of course, he could always just retire.
I'm more shocked that they signed Wake for two years and at 5 million per. They've had a long stanging kind of Gentleman's agreement with Wake for him to go year to year at 4 mil for as long as he was able to play.

This actually isn't necessarily it for Tek. He still has a $3 million player option he can exercise, or he could resign with the Sox under a new contract. All depends on whether he's willing to be a backup or not.

He was the team's long-time captain and caught a club-record 1,381 contests and ranks among the club's all-time leaders in overall games played (9th, 1,439), doubles (8th, 290), home runs (12th, 175), RBIs (15th, 705) and walks (15th, 583).
His role was diminished after the addition of Martinez in a July trade with the Indians. Varitek hit .220 last season. Martinez hit .302 with 23 home runs and 108 RBIs between Cleveland and Boston.
Wakefield, 43, made the All-Star team for the first time last season and finished 11-5 with a 4.58 ERA. His deal is worth $5 million for two years and he can earn $10.5 million with bonuses, according to a major-league source.

Hi All,
As many of you know I was recently traveling in Europe which included
a stop in London which in turn included attending the Patriots/Bucs
game at Wembley Stadium. To say I had a special time being in another
country watching my beloved team is an understatement. We had an
absolute blast!!
Wembley is a beautiful facility (I understand it's much better than it
used to be). Group members Angie T., Dave T. and Drew M. were also in
attendance along with some friends of mine from Boston. Around London
it looked like an invasion of Patriots shirts. I attended an official
Patriots party at The Sports Cafe in Central London, whooping it up
with about 300 other Pats fans. And like he did in Seattle and
Denver, owner Bob Kraft showed up to speak to the patrons. I got to
greet him as he came in (he remembered me!) and apparently got on
Boston TV for it (I became aware after a frantic phone call from my
mother the next day ;)). The next day some of us went to a big pre-
game party at a Wembley area pub/hotel that had a huge backyard to
accommodate around 200 to 300 football fans. I was touched to see how
many British folks really love the NFL. In and around the stadium, UK
fans were wearing shirts of all teams. Most of course had Patriots or
Bucs shirts on (it was a Bucs home game and they did everything they
could to make it feel like their home game).
As you know, the game was very lopsided in the Patriots favor (Pats
35 Bucs 7) which made it particularly satisfying. My friend and I
had 100 level seats near the corner of one of the goal lines (we were
right in front of Sam Aikens TD catch). We had a fantastic time and
were welcomed well by the nice folks in London. There are lots of
Patriots fans there who had never had a chance to see the team until
then. Since the game sold out in less than a week of the onsale date,
I would think that the NFL would (and should) continue this tradition.
I took a ton of photos. I just got back to town a couple of days ago
so I have a lot to catch up on. But I aim to post these on our group
site soon.
Now our boys have a record of 5 and 2 and are in sole possession of
first place in the AFC East. However they have two very formidable
opponents for their next two games. The Pats take on the Miami
Dolphins in Foxboro this Sunday (The Colts are the following week).
The Dolphins are 3 and 4 and while they have played inconsistently at
times, they have shown a lot of strength, particularly after losing
their quarterback Chad Pennington to injury. I'm glad this one is a
home game for the Pats after a bye week. Should be a good one. 10AM
PST is game time. As usual many of us will be in the back room at
Spitfire (2219 4th Ave.). All season we've had anywhere from 25 to 55
Pats fans there. It's a lot of fun to be together for games and I
hope many of you can make it this Sunday. If you can't, it's my
understanding that this game will be televised in the Seattle market
on CBS.
Go Pats!
Chris
Have The Patriots become the juggernauts they've been in recent years
or did the Tennessee Titans totally lie down? It might have been a
little mix of the two, but nevertheless it was super fun to watch our
Pats annihilate the Titans 59 to 0 this past Sunday. Records were
broken and tied in that game. Brady and the offense looked way more
in sync (even with back-up Hoyer at QB in the 4th!). The defense was
very solid. It was just the cure for the Denver blues that the team
had to endure the previous week. They are now 4 and 2 and in sole
possession of first place in the East Division (thanks to the Bills
finally squeezing out a win against The Jets).
Now the Pats are getting ready for a unique game in a unique setting.
Once a year for the past couple of years, the NFL has had one regular
season game scheduled at Wembley Stadium in London. The Patriots were
picked to play this year and there they will be to take on a winless
Tampa Bay Buccaneers team (a team that is possibly worse than The
Titans). The Pats are fortunate that this is a "home game" for the
Bucs, so they still keep all of their home games on Foxboro soil.
Although there are many differing opinions about these overseas games,
I for one like them and am particularly glad that our beloved team
will be in the spotlight. A few of us from this Fan Group are
fortunate to be able to attend this game too (Angie and David T., Drew
M., and me). To say we are psyched is an understatement. We no doubt
will have some photos and stories for you all after we return.
As usual, lots of folks will be together at Spitfire (2219 4th Avenue)
to watch the game. I believe the game will be on regular broadcast TV
in Seattle. Game time PST will be at 10AM (5PM London time). Let's
hope the Pats come up with an easy win so they are 5 and 2 going into
their bye week.
Go Pats!
Chris
