Karen and I won't be able to make the Jets game. We're getting married on
the 3rd (at Heinz Chapel in Pgh) and hence will be in Jamaica on our
honeymoon at that time. :) We'll see yinz for the other games though.

   Fellow Steeler Fans,

Hope everyone is enjoying the current reprieve in the hot weather here in
Boston. Below is a message from the manager of the Sports Depot and he
was nice
enough to get back to me about the preseason games we can watch in the
NEWLY
designed room there. I was there for brunch today ($9.99 all you can
eat)
and
there have been a few changes as to the TV's there. There's a huge wide
screen
TV in the back and they've removed the pool table. The TV in the front
is
relatively still the same, but is new and the 3 TV's high above in the
back
still remain in the same place.

So now that we have the room reserved for our group, I certainly hope we
can
respectivly fill it for every game....even if it's on ESPN. Below is
what
I've
   gathered as the preseason schedule:

      * 8/8     Thursday     8 PM         NJ Jets
      * 8/18   Sunday        8 PM         Washington Redskins
      * 8/24   Saturday      12:30 PM   Detroit Lions
      * 8/29   Thursday     7:30  PM    Minnesota Vikings

I've seen the 8/18 game with the Redskins also shown to be played on
Friday
8/16. But the official Steeler website says it's on Sunday the 18th, so
we'll
go with that. What's also great is that none of our preseason games
interfere
   with the Patriots games.

Is everyone going to be up and ready for these games, or are we going to
be lame
like the Patriots fans? I hope the former rather than the latter is
true.
Go
   Steelers!

Folks, I have to share this one with everyone. On Thursday I took a flight from
Boston to Dallas and happened to recognize one of our own (or sort of). Yep, I
saw someone with a Super Bowl ring on and I know he wears #24.......yes I can
say it was Ty Law. It was kind of funny because they were pulling all of us
that had an aisle seat aside and checking out everything coming aboard. Well he
had quite a bit, so all I could see was this little Asian guy pouring through
his baggage. When they were done with him, I saw him sling over one shoulder
this thing that looks like a little purse. Maybe it's beyond my understanding,
but are women the ones who carry purses? Maybe all the Patriots carry
purses.....hmmm, maybe they've softened up a bit and should get pummelled on
Monday night by our Steelers.

I assume people know about Marvel Smith's arrest as well:

In better news, the team has signed all their draft
picks but one. Training camp starts Wednesday...

Suz,

I don't know how the floods are there as of now. I won't be there until
next
Thursday and hopefully the water will have subsided. I'll be at the Omni
Hotel
in downtown by the Riverwalk.

Sales are about even now....still trying to close up $25,000 at Exeter
Hospital,
$44,000 at Lawrence General, $80,000 at Atrium Medical and have a big
meeting on
Monday at Mass General about this Outpatient Center project there and what
we
can provide in product.

How are sales at Solucient?

Hi Suzanne,

I'm leaving for San Antonio next week with the girlfriend to attend her
cousin's wedding. It's kind of tough with her being a Univ. of Michigan grad
and she thinks Tom Brady is just soooo great. Well I guess I still have
some
tutoring to do with her.

Where in Colorado are you going?

Since you mentioned Sam Adams... I found out a very interesting
fact. I was sporting my Iron City Beer t-shirt the other day and
somebody on the T remarked about it to the girl he was with. He
muttered something about wearing a Sam Adams t-shirt to show
how "Boston" he is.

Later that day I found out that most of the Sam Adams lager... is
made by the Pittsburgh Brewing Company!

C-FBN--Steelers-Porter,0348
Porter agrees to $22.5 million, six-year contract with Steelers
By JOE MANDAK
Associated Press Writer
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- Linebacker Joey Porter agreed to terms on a
six-year, $22.5 million contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers on
Tuesday.
Porter's agent, Mike Sullivan, said Porter will sign the deal in
the next couple of days.
"Joey is extremely happy that he's taken the first step toward
completing his entire career with the Steelers," Sullivan said
from his office in Walnut Creek, Calif. "His only remaining goal
is to be part of a championship team there."
Porter, 25, had 61 tackles and nine sacks last season -- giving
him 211/2 sacks in three seasons since the Steelers drafted him in
the third round out of Colorado State.
The deal includes a $5 million signing bonus and a salary of
$400,000 this season. Porter will make $2 million in 2003, $2.75
million in 2004, $3.5 million in 2005, $3.85 million in 2006 and $4
million in 2007, plus a $1 million roster bonus for that season.
The deal is the final step in solidifying the Steelers'
linebacking corps -- at a cost of $14 million in signing bonuses
alone this offseason.
The Steelers re-signed Jason Gildon and John Fiala, who could
have become free agents in March, and signed James Farrior, a free
agent from the New York Jets. Farrior replaced Earl Holmes -- the
Steelers' leading tackler last season -- who signed with Cleveland.
Sullivan said Porter was eager to sign with the Steelers because
he believes they have a legitimate shot at a Super Bowl
championship. The Steelers lost to the eventual Super Bowl champs,
the New England Patriots, in the AFC Championship game last season.
Porter, who was at home in Bakersfield, Calif. on Tuesday night,
could not immediately be reached by The Associated Press.
    "I'm happy they're making a commitment and knowing I won't have
to worry about where I'll play next year," Porter told the
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on the newspaper's Web site. "I'll be in
Pittsburgh and hopefully end my career here."

So we signed this guy as a UFA along with

says he's a 6-year vet from Southern Cal.
Does anyone know anything about him, what
team he came from & how much of an impact
he's likely to make.

Hello Boston Steelers Nation,

Here is a quick three-part email about some exciting developments
for the Black and Gold Brigade in Boston:

A meeting took place between various members of our chapter and the
management of the Sports Depot. Some great developments are taking place
that will really add to our game-viewing pleasure this season. The Depot is
really going out of their way for us and will deserve a huge thank you. The
highlights:

- Three flat-screen televisions in our room that will replace the relic
that currently exists. They will be placed in various locations so that all
of us do not have to be crammed together looking in one direction.

- The Sports Depot will be supplying us with "cards" which will act in the
same manner that gift cards work in retail stores. Each of us will be able
to put an amount of money on our card. This will eliminate the long line of
bar tabs that exist at the end of each game making life much easier for
everyone involved.

- Servers will be dedicated just to our group enabling us to have faster
and better service.

- And do not worry - we have booked the room for the season!!

Media Events and Giveaways
As you no doubt have realized, the Steelers have many primetime games this
year. What does this mean for us?? Giveaways of Steelers and Pittsburgh
Merchandise from the organization in Pittsburgh!! Additionally, I am sure
that we will see our faces once again on television. I will keep you posted
on the developments as they occur as well as the possibility of a party for
us in Pittsburgh over Thanksgiving!!

Well, that is the quick and dirty of the Steelers news, but below I am
adding a section where I need some help:

As some of you already know, I am in the midst of beginning a new
job search as I look to expand my horizons. Not being from the area and the
economy the way it is, I thought I would take this opportunity to paste
below a broad job outline and attach my resume. From the media activities I
performed last year for our group, most of you may have an idea of what I
do. I appreciate any help that anyone can provide this die-hard Steelers fan!!

Go Steelers,

          Scott Love
Broad Job Outline:
I am looking to perform Communications/Public Relations for a technology or
any Fortune 1000 company. Additionally, I am interested in pursuing and
expanding upon my government relations/communications experience. I would
not rule out working for an agency as my last three years have been spent
working happily in an agency environment, but the existence of potential
upward movement must be present. Salary is negotiable.
