There was so much talk in the offseason about giving Ben more control of the offense, and having him call audibles in a no-huddle scheme a la Manning or Palmer. So where is that? If it's too early in the season & they're still picking up the new offense then OK, but this would have been a good time to unveil it. Yes we were ahead at the half, but it was pretty obvious that we were lucky to beat the Cardinals deep on a third-and-23 play. Aside from that we hadn't done a whole lot.

I might have seen Ben change the play once or twice, but there was no no-huddle until the very end. Calling audibles on the road can be difficult, but that's why you practice. Anyway if they want him to get good at this, they have to start using it in real games, even if the situation doesn't necessarily call for it.

I will try to stop venting now.

Hi BJ,

Good comments, it's running on first and second down almost every series with 8 in the box that was very frustrating. As you said the predictability of the run game was very evident.  I would have thought our coaches would have adjusted and thrown some screens a few passes to Willie etc.  Come to think about it, have we run many screen plays this year?

All in all it is only one game, we will be home next week and a bye after that.  A 4-1 record would be a beautiful thing!!

Did I read correctly? "Frustrating to see us running so much"?! The
Steelers are a run first team. I don't have a complaint about them
trying to get the running game going and sticking to trying to get it
rolling. my complaint would be maybe the predictability of the run
game... and throwing on first down late in the game would have made
some sense but it only takes one play for Willie to add 60 yards to
his rushing totals. I also wish that Ben's interception in the
endzone had been an option play where he could have had the chance to
run it in if nobody was open. Give that Cardinals D one more thing to
think about. I liked that they tried to pound it in, but I wish they
had used Davenport a little more early in the game to wear down the
Cardinals more. I don't feel like the Steelers played particularly
bad, they just didn't capitalize when they needed to. They held the
cardinals down for pretty well. Consider that 14 of Arizona's points
came off of TD that was questionable and a second chance return. They
stumbled and didn't produce like they should have but I am still
feeling confident about this team. I agree with you Hourvitz, my
biggest concern isn't so much that they lost this game but that other
teams will watch the tape and come away with schemes that may work
against us.

I did not like seeing Whisenhunt buddying-up to our players before the game. This can only take some of the edge off, which is probably what he had in mind....
