That's correct Dana, but it was the last World Cup, 2 years ago
http://www.jba-hp.jp/2006wbc/ Yasuhiro Togai is his name. I've never
met Logan (in fact I've met very few boomers in person), But I saw the
footage you took of him at the last nationals. Very entertaining! I'm
looking forward to meeting Logan and everyone else next month. Thanks
for the work you're doing on boomerangs.tv Very impressive videos and
good information!
Cheers!

Welcome to a new member, a Mr. Dirk Draper, who is my
brother - in law and great friend out here in
California. You probably have seen Dirk in some of the
youtube videos we have been doing. for example:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=_iqZxQkvtZ8
and the more studly Dirk at:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ybA4VldZpi8&feature=related
and there are more posted at other locations. Dirk is
the real deal and with a little practice I think he
could become a top 10 thrower in the competition
circuit. He has helped me in so many ways out here and
is the just a terrific guy. I don't know if he is
going to have time to participate with us but he is
giving it a go at least for a while. Thanks for
joining Dirk! To participate all you have to do is
reply to any email from the group. Remember, Your
reply will automatically go to all of us so any email
to boomerangchat@yahoogroups.com is like a broadcast
to the world!
When I first joined some related yahoo groups I didn't
look at any of them for months but if you check in
once in a while you will find some funny comments and
great people. I think you will enjoy it after you get
to know these guys.
I'm also hoping you can join us at Morri's tournament,
The National Beach Boomerang Championships in Hermosa
Beach March 22 and 23. Amar will be there managing the
boomerang booths (selling boomerangs and signing up
California Computer Club registrations and USBA
memberships) but you are penciled in as a competitor
dude. Who knows, maybe YOU can win a National Beach
Boomerang Championship event! We can talk about it
soon.
Dana
Yoshi was the guy who won the Japanese Nationals after
spending a few month's at Gary Broadbent's - right.
That says it all right there. From the looks of his
son Logan at the 2007 US Nationals I think Gary has
another national champion taking place there also.
Logan has all the tools to take the crown if he wants
it bad enough and has time to practice.
What a terrific young man also. He was very
impressive. It's great to see kids come up with such
class and dignity. I liked the politeness and the
charity tshirt he had on. How many kids have a social
awareness now? It was very cool to see him represent
the sport so well.
It looks like Dave H. is doing a travelogue and he can
find a boomerang anywhere. I really enjoyed reading
about his trip to Australia a few years ago.
Updated boomerangs.tv a little a few minutes ago with
3 Long Distance boomerang videos. Just exposed another
friend to "An Inconvenient Truth" earlier tonight.
It's been a good day.

Hi Dave!
That's okay. You have an open invitation anyway. I hope you're
having a great time where you are right now. Did you hear about the
Japanese astronaut who will be testing a paper boom in outer space at
zero gravity in the international space station? The boom was made and
sent to him by Gary's friend Yoshi (I forget his correct name), a
world class competitor. He wrote to the astronaut, who agreed to take
the boom with him on his next space flight.
Cheers!

sorry, I am just not a tournament type person. I skip out of going to the opne
across town, so flying across the country is really a push. Have fun.
I am about 8 miles from the White House right now, in Takoma Park MD, in the
hotel drinking ginger beer after a day out at the new Air and Space Museum. To
keep it on topic, there is a great aboriginal boomerang in a display case back
by the space shuttle.

Well there's no doubt that David's strip lams are some of the very
best I've ever seen. And his original shapes and strip patterns are
extremely creative and innovative. They're truly awesome!
Thanks for your comments on my rangs too Dana. I do have a unique
crafting style but they don't come close to David's innovation. I try
to make rangs that are user friendly and practical for production. My
artwork is just something I tried and I've received positive
responses. I don't do the arty stuff a whole lot because I'm trying to
focus on practical performance and efficient mass production. I'd like
my booms to be the type that any newbie can pick up, toss and have a
fun experience with. That's where my concentration is right now. I
want to develop a system of production that can be taught to anyone
with the slightest experience with wood carving tools and with minimum
cost of equipment and materials. When consumer demand for boomerangs
increases, I want to be ready to accommodate it.
How nice to hear that David has donated some of his fine booms for
the beach tourney. David, I sure hope you can come and bring some of
your friends with you on the 22nd of next month. It's going to be
quite an event! Dave Hendricks, we'd love to see you here too.
Cheers!

I'm starting to get motivated. When I think of maybe never meeting my future grandkids that has some impetus for me.
I bought One of Dave Hendrick's booms yesterday on Ebay. It is a Herb Smith replica. That one purchase got me the best of both world's huh!

it seems to be working for me and i have a much better understanding of the boom in hand. also i can experment with tweaking and layover and throwing high or low. throwing is great, fun and good exercise. but sometimes we get lost in the fun part of it and don't look at options. like tweaking or differnt throws or wind direction.

This isn't real work though huh. I was uploading a video of Greg Snouffer and it takes so darn long to do sometimes I get up in the middle of the night to start an upload so it will not tie up computer time later on as much. Also, I basically work until I drop and then as soon as I wake up I generally get up
except sometimes on Sunday I like to sleep in a little. I casually watch "This Week" and "Meet the Press" and contemplate how wonderful life is. Pretty strange dude huh!
Sometimes I drop during the day now though. That is disconcerting. I read your profile yesterday. I could use some of that weight loss expertise! Sometimes when driving now I have to pull over and sometimes right in the middle of the day I sleep at work for a half hour to an hour. Just can't do what I used to do any more.
You deserve the compliments David. I really appreciate you sending down that package and it will be prominently posted at Morri's tournament assuming Morri is OK with that and I'm sure he will be (barring any city guidelines I may not be aware of).

Dana:
Thanks for all the great complements. i hope i can keep up that
standard and quality of work. having vision issues i almost always
have to have someone check my work to make sure it is up to par.
i do have to mention that the Pussyfoot boomerangs is NOT an MTA. it
just looks that way. once you give it a toss ( from the wrapped end)
your see a nice big slow loop and more of a recreational type of
boomerangs. something to warm up with and something to catched
bystanders eyes.
also... what are you doing up at 5:30 AM??? you have a Cat like i
do? Zippy gets me up every morning around 4:00am for breakfast. LOL
i added you to my Yahoo messenger list. if you don't have it yet,
i highly suggest downloading it. yahoo will want you to downlaod
other stuff like their tool bar, but i opted for just the messenger.
i have a lot of boomers on my list and we chat everyday. this is
something that everyone in the USBA should have.. that way you ALL
could have a conferance chat and iron things out in real time.

I've got to add that David Fantone has clearly reached
the "Hey, that looks like a David Fantone Bear
Boomerang" phase already. He is right up there with
the best boomerang crafters in the country for sure.
When you get those models we discussed the other day

think you are onto something with those new designs.

Wait till you see the bundle that David sent to me for
Morri's tournament. I'm having someone photoshop them
today and then I will post them online. Included are
two versions of "The Tick", an MTA, a miniature Omega
Hook and the best strip lam I've ever seen.
I defer to the knowledge of some of you guys like Dave
Hendricks, David Fantone and you John as you all have
probably seen more booms than I but I have seen booms
from 7 different countries now. I have seen quite a
few really good boomerangs and this strip lam is to me
the best I've ever seen. I don't dare throw it but it
sure is pretty! I know strip lams are tough also...It
just looks too darn good!

Hi
I don't feel comfortable in a moderartor role. I am here if my knowledge is
useful but that is about it.
Dave Hendricks
Really nice booms David! It looks to me like you're developing a
really great and distinct crafting style. Before you know it, throwers
all over the country will meet at throwing parties, look into each
others' bags and say, "Hey, that looks like a David Fantone Bear
Boomerang!".
Cheers!

My introduction to boomerangs was the classic red whamoo boomerang of
the 60's in the early 1970's. While picking up a new Frisbee I saw a
boomerang there and grabbed one (wishing now I picked up all of them)
and went on my way. All my buddies were tossing Frisbee as was I. I
brought the boomerang out and to my amazement it worked first time.
I was hooked right then and there. All my buddies seems to just
scoff at it as they were still trying to get the hang of a Frisbee.
As time progressed and I joined the ranks of the working class and
the U.S. Navy I set aside my toys. Like everyone else I evolved into
a working class stiff and laid the boomerang aside. Back then there
was no internet or boomerang community to keep me interested and I
had long broken the red boomerang.
many many years later and many many pounds later(almost 300 pounds)I
had to do something for medical reasons to get myself back into
some kind of shape besides ROUND. So I took up free style kung fu.
I had lost 80 pounds in a matter of a couple years and gained a few
new Belts to my wardrobe. I was happy but my Dr. wasn't and insisted
I lose more.
By this time I was on line and was out surfing around and thought I
would do a search for Boomerangs. If it was a slot machine, I would
have hit the Jackpot. I found so much on line I was re-hooked. I
ordered a Blue Star traditional and a Carlotta triblade. Once I got
them in my paws I knew what HOOKED was all over again.
Only three months later I found a site that mentioned a boomerang
contest in Salem, Oregon and that is right up the road from me. I
called the man in charge to get some questions answered and he
politely asked me what I could do with a boomerang or what events am
I best at.... t/c f/c MTA and stuff I had no idea what he was
talking about. I told the guy "I don't know about your boomerang,
but when I throw mine it returns to me 99% of the time.
He invited me up and gave me directions and that was it. The day I
showed up I was scared to death. I had no idea what I was doing or in
for. I only had the 2 boomerangs. To shorten the story, everyone
was really nice, helpful and sharing and I walked away with 1st place
accuracy.
since then I have taught myself to throw and build all kind of
boomerangs and have to give credit to the boomerang community for
helping me along the way with my questions and help with differnt
issues.
Like most everyone else there is always more to the story or more I
can say or add or lie about. LOL. But that's my introduction to
boomerangs. If it is a personal introduction you want. Well drop me
a line. I can help with art work, martial arts, weight loss,
personal and spiritual (psychic) counseling. And I'm a pretty good
cook too. Just don't ask me to spell something correctly.

Hi Everyone!
Dana, congrats on the launch of your new group and thanks for the
welcome message. If you need help moderating, I'll be glad to help
out. I've recently been made a co-moderator of B-talk and so far there
isn't much to it, but I think you need to upgrade my membership to
moderator status. Of course on B-talk I have help from David F. and
some other fine folks so it would be nice to have help here too.
Anyway, I'm willing to lend a hand. I know you've been busy with a ton
of boomerang stuff.
Nice to see some familiar friends here. I guess an introduction is
good idea Dave. I'm John Villagrana. I've been throwing since, and
began to learn how to make boomerangs from a book in 1985. In 2000 I
met up with the boomerang community via the internet and have learned
about 10 times more about making/throwing than I had taught myself
before that. I also opened a website in 2000, trying to sell a few
booms and also provide some information that for me was hard to come
by previously.
I took a break from making boomerangs for a few years because I was
working too many hours at my regular job and I just didn't have time.
But now I'm making rangs again and will soon be updating my website,
making a few models available for sale once again. By the way David
Fontaine, I haven't forgotten our trade deal you made with me in good
faith. You'll be getting my end of the deal in the very near future :)
I also have a chat group on the Google system called
realworkingboomerangs. Anyone in this group is welcome to join my
group as well. It hasn't been very active but I created it for the
same reason. To spread the word of boomerangs! :) I guess that's it
for now.
Cheers!

If I remember correctly BooBoo was Yogi's sidekick and David's

photos! We need a photo of the Tick too David!

I just activated the ability of members to upload links, photos and
files. I think I have to approve photos but the rest should go
smoothly. If something we don't want to happen takes place please
accept my apology but I will endeavor to correct it asap; i.e erroneous
postings, swearing, full frontal nudity...etc. (it's tempting but I
guess no huh!).
If any boomerang related company wants to post whatever it is fine as
long as it's not smut...etc.
I have no problem if Dave, David and / or John V. want to help moderate
this. I doubt if that would compromise my yahoo passwords to do and if
that is the case then if any of you want to help moderate it that's
fine with me. I think I know you all pretty well and I trust you would
dodo the right thing.
I'm kind of busy as you guys know so please consider it ok!
Dave H. has assured me that the way I did this is ok from an email
persective so I guess we will just go with it.
I'll invite some people to join now I guess. We will see what happens.
Later, Dana
Hi all,
Just a brief introduction. I am Dave Hendricks and have been making and throwing
boomerangs for 18 or so years. I figure I have a little experiece with the hobby
and can possibly answer some questions when they come up. I'm here to help.
If you are on MySpace, you can join me at: http://www.myspace.com/boomerangdave
My real online journal is at:
http://journal.rcn.net/boomerangdave/
That can be some fun reading especially if you go back and read about "Ian's
Boomerang Project" or even further back and read about my travels to Australia.
Other than that, I have loads of good stuff at: www.bvdrangs.com

Hey, thanks for the welcome aboard e-mail Dana. Looks like another
good place to chat it up a bit about boomerangs. I hope that the
Photoalbums will be open for personal displays and shows.
As you know I don't do retail per-say, only custom work. I do have a
group for boomerang swapping and I hope that the link will be welcome
here as well. If not, no problem - no pressure
Let me know and we can start beefing up this group.

I don't quite understand the email issue. First, since it is a Yahoo Group, you
need to provide your email address to join. Second, if only memebers are allowed
to read the messages, then no one from outside can see the messages, thus they
won't see the email addresses. Third, Yahoo parses the email addresses so that
even the members don't see the address when reading online. Again, this prevents
spammers from harvesting addresses. As long as approval is needed for
memberships, you can pretty well control who gets in.
I hope this sheds some light.

Boomerangchat is intended to be a gathering place for boomerang
hobbyists. If you need support or how to throw instructions here is a
good place to start. If you want to share ideas, new boomerang designs,
new materials or brainstorm a little here is a good place to start.
