ello. im brian, not the underdog brian. Im an
even bigger loser. anyways just a little bit of info
aboot me, im 20, been riding 8 years even though 4 or 5
were in the dark (i knew nothing, just rode my bike
and jumped) last year I attempeted starting a
company, but ran out of money quick. I bought a hoffman
taj off some guy back in 96 and traded that for a new
one, and then bought a 97 frame and built it up
myself. I recently sold the 96 to my brother since he
needed a bike that wouldnt fall apart. I ride mostly
street, and alot of dirt. im also a drummer in a band
that's trying to go somewhere soon. i'll stop now b/c i
am lacking the tyle.
hear ya man. I's wake up in the morning and hit
bmxbuyer/letters. It was like a daily thing, never could go without
it. Even though I didnt post that much, but I still
was addicted to it. bmxbuyer really helped me out
alot. now I wake up in the morning and sit on may arse
for a few hours trying to build up motivation. call
me crazy, i know i am.
know what you mean - it's weird not having it, even though 99% of the posts are
annoying, obnoxious, or just plain dumb, I still go there at least once a day!
an, I miss Protyle. I must be a protyle addict.
I am going through withdrawals. Everytime I have
been online for a few years I went to the letters
board. Now, what in the hell am I supposed to do?
Arrgghhhhh.....On another note. I was listening to the new Lauryn
Hill CD, she mentions "riding her mongoose till dark".
So I am wondering is L-boogie has BMX roots?
've heard that Tension is rad, although I
haven't read it... I was waiting to order it until I
could send a new copy of my zine too. Of course, I
might have to wait a long time for that. <br>I've got
some back issues of #4 left, although there's not much
riding in it (there never really has been - it's more of
a punk/personal zine)... it's entirely made up of a
diary of a trip I took a few years ago (without my
bike) when I was trying to decide if I wanted to move
to SF. I did ride Rampage in Iowa a little though.
If you email me with your address I'll send you one,
although I don't really think it's that good.
orry.. my post was all
discombobulated.<br><br>let me rephrase it..<br><br>being the webnerd that i
am, i check out eWire often, and i read the column
editorial from your zine, with your name at the bottom a
while ago. i joined this club, noticed that keiran
joined and such, then it hit me about you were the same
allan that wrote that article. then i went and checked
that column written by someone with the same name and
i put the names together.. and just asked. what
would the ordering info be? have you heard of tension
zine?

ut of interest, does anyone know what Mark
Lewman of Freestylin/Go is doing now? I know that he was
doing that Dirt thing, which I thought was cool
although it should have had some bike content, and he
edited an issue of Grand Royal, but what's up with him
now? I used to be really into his stuff.<br>Anyone
know?
mm... yeah, I do a zine called Drop Out,
although there hasn't been an issue in a couple of years.
My move to the US was kind of unsettling. I'm
working on the next issue now, though... Hopefully it'll
be out by the end of the year. How did you know?
up, it is kind of small... I invited a bunch of
people, but so far only a couple of them have joined.
This is why I never have parties - I'm terrified that
no-one will show up. Hopefully it'll grow, though.
<br><br>Thanks for the cheers!<br><br>- Allan
hate to say this, but this club is sorta small.
i'm suprised that none of the lame people from
protyle haven't ventured over to ruin this message board.
maybe its the lack of anomymity(sp?) of this
club.<br><br>congrats to allen for doing a good deed and making this
club. three cheers for allen!
i Allen! Just trying this once again -- good job
starting this BMX club. I actually searched Yahoo clubs
when I heard it was released, but there wasn't
anything there at the time.<br><br>One of the best links
is Burning Flags -- Glen E. Friedman is an
incredible photographer! My personal favorites include his
Run-DMC shots. Anyway, is it possible to break up the
links page into sections (riding, music, etc.)? Just
wondering...<br><br>Do you know of any other good Glen E. Friedman
sites? There was a cool interview with him at Crash
(<a href=http://www.crashsite.com/ target=new>http://www.crashsite.com/</a>),
but right now it seems like their server is down
or something.
ounds like a cool job... Pipeline, huh... we
used to see that and Del Mar in mags, and spend all
our time dreaming that one day we could move to
California, the promised land... Now I'm here, but reality
has set in. Those dreams never contained landlords
and rent money and phone bills and ten hour work
days, just sun and riding and beaches and california
girls. <br>Riding flat in 1981, I'm sure it was
technical! ;)<br>I used to ride flat a bit too. We had a
wedge ramp in the parking lot near my house, we just
did kickturns and rollbacks all day, as well as those
dope curb dogs moves, nourie stands, gumbys, quick
spins, endo variations, the lot! We'd have little
contests with 'compulsories' and 3 minute runs - you had
to do a switcharound, a one-footed kickturn, a roll
back 180, and a framestand, and the rest was up to
your individual expression! My signature trick was a
framestand kickturn. I turned pro soon after that, touring
the UK demonstrating my kickturn prowess to hordes of
screaming teenagers. It was a life of cocaine and blowjobs
in the back of the bus...<br>Those were the days...
just turned 27, started riding flat in 1981, 17
years ago. Done it all rode Pipeline be for it was
down. Ride a 2 Hip Stout Boy that I get to ride 3 to 4
times aweeks. Wish I had time to ride more. I am a news
videographer at the local abc afilliate. Peace....
ere's another one from when the props folk came
to SF. We were at this hipster artist party
(mentioned earlier) and Ron Wilkerson came and met up with
us later. After the party a bunch of us went to this
bar called the Edinburgh Castle. By the time we left
there, most people were pretty miraculously drunk. Joe
Rich was inviting everyone to exchange face slaps with
him, 'for a laugh.' No one wanted to do it, but
finally Ron was into it. So Ron went first, and gave Joe
a playful slap on the face. Then Joe pulled back
and clocked Ron full force, knocking him to the
floor, and causing him to bleed from the mouth. Ron got
up laughing, and brushed it off, but we made Joe
feel pretty bad about it. It's not fun seeing your
childhood hero get bitchslapped! After that a bunch of
people went to find some jack-off booths, but I went
home.<br>- Allan
he new pic is of my friend Sandy Carson, and the
photo was taken by Ed Docherty of Dig Magazine. If you
haven't seen this mag, it's from Ireland, and it's the
best BMX mag around, I'm serious. It's available from
some stores here, and from S&M. Give it a look.
i OS, I met Crandall when he was out here with
the Props Crew filming road fools 2. He was on this
whole back of the neck tip for some reason, and for the
whole time every time someone crashed, he would ask
them if the back of their neck was OK. Then we were at
this crazy artist party in a hotel, and he and I were
taliking to this girl. I told her that he was a serious
artist, and his thing was to make huge sculptures out of
bronze, of the back of people's necks. It doesn't sound
funny now, but it was then, I promise. I think the FBM
bike is going to be called the nape.<br>I live in San
Francisco, I've been here a little more than 3 years now.
I'm originally from Scotland. I have a blue Holmes
NG, and I ride street mostly, pretty badly too. I
work a lot, and I'm married, so I usually only manage
to ride once a week, if that. I'm just happy that I
still ride at all at age 28. (I started at 13). That's
my mini bio, I guess. How about you?
llan, you know Crandall or is that a quote?<br>What do you ride? What kind of
riding do you do? You should download irc and go to the undernets #bmc channel.
Peace...
eel free to post about anything that takes your
fancy. Also, if there are some sites you want people to
see, post links to them on the links page! Also, I
want to keep changing the picture every week, so email
me with the URLs of your favorite images. You don't
have to send the pics, just the URLs. Have fun! -
Allan
his is not a bad forum, hope it pics up. Gee, that looks like a familiar
magazine cover. Thanks for asking first. I have more if you need them. Peace...
just started this club because it seemed like
fun. I guess I see it as serving a similar purpose as
the Protyle message board in a way, but maybe it'll
develop in an interesting way. I'd like to try and
persuade some pros or other important BMX superheroes to
participate in live chats in the chat room. Hopefully we can
make this fun. Also, whether or not you like this, you
should all go and make Yahoo! clubs of your own! Cheers,
Allan.
