This list is for people who are blind and visually-impaired who have an interest in tandem cycling - though also for anyone else who is interested in tandem cycling.
It's to post information about cycling competitions, workshops, and training opportunities, as well as to exchange ideas on how to get more people involved in tandem cycling. We're here to serve as a resource for tandem enthusiasts of all levels.
Possible topics for discussion on the list include: recruiting pilots/captains, how to get involved, information about clinics and races, national and international competitions, riding tips, equipment, and fitness - as well as more recreational things like how to find or how to start - a tandem cycling program in your community.
Tandem cycling is becoming more popular each year - which means there are more opportunities to participate in both recreational and competitive events. But there is still a great need for growth in the sport.
The United States Association of Blind Athletes, (USABA.org) is the main provider of tandem cycling training opportunities in the USA, though there are numerous other organizations that provide tandem cycling for the blind - in the USA and around the world.
Though this list has been developed specifically for the sport of tandem cycling, we welcome discussion about road, track, and mountain biking, as there are cyclists who are blind, involved in all of it.
This list is here to inform cyclists about opportunities for both competitive and recreational cycling. But it's also to help motivate and inform those interested in the possibilities, but who simply don't get their butts on the seat often enough to do anyone any good. Let's ride, people! It doesn't matter if you're blind. The only thing truly stopping you is your attitude. Get on your bikes and ride! Don't believe it? Come on in and let's discuss it. ;-)

Re: Tool kit suggestions?
I would recommend a multi tool. It seems to have about every thing and it is only $25 and compact. ... From: blind_cycling@yahoogroups.com
