Re: [birdybike] Creaks and Ticks

Or try replacing your pedals .....the bearings can start to fail like the
U-Joint on a car and sometimes very hard to discern where the noise\vibration is
coming from

I had a tick that was very hard to track down as well. Mine ended up coming
from a worn bottom bracket which, when replaced, eliminated it.

Subject: [birdybike] Creaks and Ticks

My 2000 model Silver Birdy has developed a creaking and ticking sound.

The creaking sound seems to originate from the front fork when riding
but does not occur when the bike is stationary and the front fork is
depressed.

The ticking sound occurs when the left pedal in near the down stroke
while foot pressure is being applied to the pedal. If the cranks are
spun without any pressure on the pedals, the ticking sound does not
occur. The ticking sound is loud enough to announce my presence
without using a bell. I have determined that my foot is not hitting
any part of the bike while cranking.

Any suggestions to help resolve these problems are appreciated.

Cheers,

Rod

Thanks for all the suggestions. I stopped the creaking by spraying WD- 40 on the front shock absorber. I pulled the cranks and removed the new bottom bracket...
