Alright folks,
Here's the deal:
A combination of things have resulted in my decision to ride in the 12 hours
race this
weekend. Primarily, my lack of planning coupled with procrastination are the
culprits. There
are other factors, but to name them here would be to shirk my responsibility. I
vow to be
better prepared next year, to include taking the appropriate amount of time off
prior to the
event to property ready myself mentally and logistically.
I've already notified Robert Summers, SAG extrordinaire. He was invaluable in my
effort last
year and was poised to prove even more helpful this year. I appreciate
everybody's moral
support the past several months.
kev
65° & Partly Sunny. Sounds like a 7:30 ride to me.

Don't know if this rain is 'posed to last all day long.
I'm doing a recovery ride this afternoon from my house (off of Brunns, behind
Bike Shop)
sometime after 1 p.m. It will be a true recovery ride low, low heart rate and
short duration) of
about 15-20 miles). Anybody's welcome and I can't meet you at the bike shop if
you think
want to come. If it's raining, I won't go. I caught the flu sometime late Friday
or Saturday.

Thanks for the invite but I am going to ride with the
group since I don't get to see them as often as I would like but I
hope I will have some takers for a longer ride. Have a safe ride
tomorrow.

Kevin,
Are you riding long on Saturday? I am looking
for some company for an aerobic base pace ride of about 70+
miles.

The way that your helmet fits will help you decide which headphones you
should get. if your helmet fits lower on you head then you should stick to
the kind that fit inside your ears so that the helmet doesnt interfere with
them. i am fond of the kind that fit inside the ear and right now i have
the stock kind that come with the ipod however everybody has a personal
preference. u just need to try a bunch on and see what fits the best. and

Got one of dem new fangled music devices for Christmas.
Let's assume I know the inherent dangerous of riding and/or running with
earphones.
Does anybody have advice about the best type of headphones for running and the
best for
cycling. The stock pair are buds, but don't come close to fitting into my ear
canals or staying
on for more than a 1/4 mile.
And yes, I keep the volume low enough to hear the environment around me.
Any help you can provide would be appreciated.
Kevin
'Twas two weeks before Christmas, at the Kennelworth Lodge
not a creature was stirring, except for some fools.
The bikes were unloaded from roof racks with care,
while we wondered why none of our colleagues were there.
Fellow riders were nestled all snug in their beds,
so we pumped up our tires and checked out our treads.
And Terrell in his wind pants and Rick, Hodge, and Kevin with warm
mittens,
me Manny having to ride With clothes that aren't fittin'.
When out on the road there arose such a clatter,
I looked up from my Cateye to see if jt was Robert Summers
Out over the parking lot we all glanced real quick,
And were certain our eyes must be playing a trick.
The sun on the breast of the frosty brown field
gave us hope that the bone-chilling temps would soon yield,
when, what to our wondering eyes should appear,
but a new carbon bike and 10 shiny bright gears.
With a little old rider, so lively and quick,
We knew in a moment i t must be St. Nick.
More rapid than Armstrong, his cadence it turned,
and pounded those cranks `til the tires nearly burned:
"Now 25! 23!
21, on down to 11!
54 on the chain ring!
And we'll hammer to Heaven!
To the top of the hills!
There will be no down-shiftin'!
Hop on those bikes, ride away! The frost soon will be liftin'"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
we were rolling along, `neath a bright sunny sky
so up to Lake Placid us riders we flew,
the three C-4 boys, and St. Nicholas too.
And then, as the cold wind was taking a toll,
it was getting harder and harder to make that bike roll.
As I drew in a breath and was starting to frown,
to the back of the paceline St. Nicholas came slowing down.
He was dressed in red Lycra, from his head to his cleats,
and I wondered how a fat man could accomplish such feats.
A bundle of components he had flung on his back,
if he could ride with such burden, he would cut me no slack.
His eyes--how they twinkled! His dimples, how merry!
He had quads of steel, but his legs, they were hairy!
His droll little mouth was drawn up like a bow,
and the beard on his chin filled with dust from the road.
The stump of a PowerBar he held tight in his teeth,
and Accelerade dripped from his chin to the street.
He had a broad face and a little round belly,
that shook as he pedaled, like a bowl full of jelly.
He was chubby and plump, but could crank out such watts,
and I laughed when I thought of him doing his squats.
A wink of his eye and a feather of the brake
soon gave me to know he was here for my sake.
He spoke not a word, but his message was clear:
Tuck in right behind me and stay close on my rear.
And laying his finger aside of his shifter,
we went flying along, ever swifter and swifter.
He sprang from his saddle, to us all gave a whistle,
And then shot away, riding fast as a missle.
But we heard him exclaim, 'ere he hammered out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good bike!"
Terrill,
A West Palm Beach man died Sunday during the bike ride. His name is Allen
Horning (I
don't have the correct name spelling yet. I don't return to work until Tuesday,
so I won't
have the correct spelling and the man's age until then. I expect to have quotes
from Linda
Leeds and Rick Johnson, plus information from the police report.
At this time, I have no idea who was at fault -- the cyclist or the car driver.
