Hello 24- 9ers!
I hope you are all well and that you are all having a great summer of
riding!
Registration has been flying in all summer, so the biggest 24 hour race
in the Midwest should be even bigger this year! Thank you all for
spreading the word!
This is a quick reminder that today, July 15, is the last day of the
$80 per rider pricing for the 24 Hours of 9 mile. Please be sure to get
your registration in the mail today for the lower price!
Registration forms can be downloaded at
http://www.teamsportsinc.com/249/2002/registration.htm
This is another reminder that Night Pro lighting systems will be on
hand for charging (Night Pro System only) and light rentals. Be sure
to email us if you'd like to reserve a system. Also, due to the
dishonesty of some riders last year, NiteRider will not be sending
their neutral rapid charging station this year, so all of those who use
a NiteRider system, please be sure to bring your own chargers to plug
into the walls.
Remember that camping is on a first come first served basis. Please
plan accordingly.
Friends and family of racers! Are you bored waiting around for your
riders to come in between shifts? Volunteering is a great way to pass
the time! We have a variety of jobs so please help out if you can
spare the time... tshirts and goodies await you! Please either reply
to me or contact Tracy at teccles@.... Or Call 262-549-6801 Ext 16.
The course this year will be very similar to last year's course, with
some alternate options for wet conditions. Overall it will be about a
15 mile course with great mix of singletrack and wide ski trails. The
course will be fairly flat but should offer some fun sections for the
mountain goats!
We have a few surprises this year so be sure to come up to Wausau
August 17-18 for the 4th annual 24 hours of 9 mile!
Thanks again for your time! I look forward to seeing you up there!
Best regards,
Kevin Eccles

The third annual "Not Quite Duluth Classic" time trial and road race
will take place Saturday evening June 29th at Oliver, Wisconsin using
most of the old Military Road course for the time trial. The Road race
will take place south of Wrenshall, MN on Carlton County highway 1
using the old triangular course with a newly re-paved MN 23 on Sunday
morning June 30th.
This year WiSport racers will be awarded bonus points for both events.
Our events follow the popular Bong Memorial race which precedes this on
Saturday morning near Superior, Wisconsin. This is an ABR sanctioned
race. USA Cycling racers are more than welcome to participate. As in
the past there is no prize list - just events for fun. While the event
is geared more towards citizen and lower categories it is open to all.

>From Bob Schwartz,
Announcing two events in the Eau Claire area:
The Tilden TT, Tilden, WI - Sat July 6th
http://www.execpc.com/~cvcc/tildentt.html
The TTT is a Wisport race with all the Wisport
categories. Entry is $15 with no late fee. We
aspire to be a monument to capitalism but since
all our sponsors crapped out on us last fall
we have to settle for an event that celebrates
the joy of racing a bicycle in a manner that
causes the individual great pain.
For an event that glorifies capitalism, please
consider the Ring Around Saturn Criterium in
Eau Claire on the following day, Sunday July 7th.
http://www.ringaroundsaturn.com/
Wisport races in the morning, followed by serious
money in in-line skate races, followed by more
serious money in USCF events later in the day.
Note that while Cat 3s race with the Cat 1/2s they
have their own prize list. Note also that there
is a prime budget and we will be shaking down
Oakwood mall tenants to further supplement this.
There is $5000 total in cash prizes.
If you use the 'Driving Directions' link on the
web page you'll get directions to the Saturn
dealership. The race is at Oakwood Mall which is
the first exit on US 53 north from the interstate.
If you don't see the mall and miss it just keep
driving because with your eyes you shouldn't be
racing anyway. The mall is pretty hard to miss.
The Saturn event has online registration with
post entry after June 30th. For more info use
the respective web page contacts.

For Immediate Release
Wisconsin-based Team Sports Events Inc. to bring Chevy Trucks National
Championship Series Mountain Bike Event to Milwaukee Area
World Champion and Olympic Racers Come to Wisconsin June 13-16, 2002
WAUKESHA, Wis. (May 29, 2002) – For the first time in Wisconsin state
history, Wisconsin-based, Team Sports Events Inc. and Alpine Valley
Resort, near Lake Geneva, Wis. will host a national championship level,
professional and amateur mountain bike event on June 13-16, 2002.
The event, round two of the Chevy Trucks National Off-Road Bicycling
Association’s (NORBA) National Championship Mountain Bike Series,
will bring world-class mountain bike racers into southeastern Wisconsin
for four days. Professional and amateur events will include cross-
country, short track, dual slalom, trials and downhill. The event will
also feature a competitive five-mile cross-country trail running race
– The Cheddar Challenge on Sunday (11:00 a.m.). With events for
riders of all levels, promoters expect to draw upwards of 2,500
athletes and 15,000 spectators.
The exciting thing about this event for Wisconsin and the WORS Series
participants is that if they have raced in a WORS event, they will be
able to be very competitve in this NORBA race when it comes to town.
The WORS series is made up of such a great group of people and riders,
that they can make a huge impact on this event and show the country
what Wisconsin and the country's largest mountain bike series is all
about.
“Bringing this Chevy Trucks NORBA National Championship Mountain Bike
Series event to Wisconsin is a great way to showcase the great cycling
and festivals our state has to offer the country and world,” said Tom
Schuler, president of Team Sports, the parent company of Team Sports
Events. “This event will bring in some very exciting racing and
festival activities that can be enjoyed by the entire family with or
without a bike.”
The Alpine Valley National Championship Series event will feature
events and activities for everyone in the family. There will be
treasure hunts, fun rides, a petting zoo, a trail running race, face
painting, popcorn, concerts, exhibitor and tech exhibits from the
bicycle industry and many other merchants. Many other activities are
in the works.
One major event that will be taking place is the Smooth as Liquid
Saturday Night Concert hosted by Trek Bicycles. The music will start
at 6:00 p.m. following the pro mountain cross events and will include
Mud Ride, The Lovelies (Ed. note - The Lovelies ROCK!), Box-o-Car and
Ward, the band lead by Grammy Award winner and former lead guitarist
for the Wallflowers - Michael Ward.
“Receiving the bid to promote this top-notch event is very exciting
for Team Sports Events, Alpine Valley Resort, the Midwest and
Wisconsin,” said Kevin Eccles, event director. “The Chevy Trucks
Nationals at Alpine Valley will give Wisconsin’s athletes, companies
and vacation destinations a chance to show what they have to offer to a
national and international audience.”
“Going to the Midwest and especially Wisconsin is something that we
have felt, as a top-level race series is very important,” said Rick
Sutton, Chevy Trucks NORBA National Championship Mountain Bike Series
director. “Wisconsin and the Midwest is home to one of the largest
mountain bike racer populations in the country and it helps make the
NCS truly, a nationwide series, with races in every region.”
Wisconsin is home to the largest mountain bike series in the country,
the Wisconsin Off-Road Series (WORS), which attracts nearly 1,000
racers during each stop on its 11-event schedule from May to October.
Team Sports Events promoted a warm-up event to the NCS, Round one of
the WORS Series at Alpine Valley, which drew nearly 1,300 athletes to
the one-day cross-country event on May 5, 2002.

the 60-some of you who did the Bone Ride - and a swift kick in the
butt to those who turned it into the Bone Race. I hope everyone
successfully avoided that dangling power line outside Oconomowoc!

Wisconsin State RR Championships
Oh yes....
Just what you've been waiting for. The WI State Championship Road Race
Course has been released. Take a look at the map found at: www.wipwak.com
It travels counter-clockwise.
Race times and even more event details will be available next week. Look
for the State Championship Race Brochure at next weekends events (May 4-5),
or just keep an eye on the website.
Looking for accomadations for the big racing weekend? The Holiday Inn &

I'm putting on an open class race in Lancaster - SW corner of the state.
Mileage is about 45 miles and several 500-700 foot climbs. Check out the
$1,000 for first place. I hope all USCF riders can make it!
This race will be in the Wisport calendar but so is the Oktoberfest 100. My
intention is to run it like the Oktoberfest 100's been run over the years.
Total open course, and open field - anyone can show up.
[Editor's note: I hope those who show up will all wear helmets and stop for
trains, unlike some I've seen at the Octoberfest race! -Dy.]
Here's your latest fix, bikeracers. Sorry for the long silence. You're
sure to hear more from me as the season heats up. Best of luck to all those
pinning on a number for the first time this season at this weekend's races
(including myself!). Ride fast and ride safe.

Hello again bikeracers.
Not surprisingly, my earlier message led to a veritable deluge of
requests to send out more info. Some of these were not suitable for
reasons of brevity and relevancy. Remember - please keep your
messages brief, and directly concerned with bike races. The best
scenario is for race promoters to send a short notice about upcoming
races, including the date and location, plus an email address or a
link to a web page for further information.
With that in mind, here are a few links to most of the race series I'm
currently aware of. If there are more, please bring them to my

Greetings fellow bike racers.
I hope everyone enjoyed a relaxing, rewarding off-season. As the
temperature begins to rise and the days begin to lengthen, you're no doubt
beginning to think about the upcoming racing season. Well, there's good
news for those who simply can't wait to pin on a number. Below you'll find
the first stirrings of the 2002 season, namely the long-running Parkside
Spring Series.
Just a few quick reminders - the bikerace group is an excellent means for
communicating bike race-related information (announcements, results, etc.)
to riders throughout the midwest (nearly 500 total). If you have an event
you want to promote, bikerace is at your service. In order to preserve the
usefulness of this service, the focus will remain specifically and
exclusively on bicycle racing (road, off-road, and track).
This is a moderated group, so messages must be submitted to the moderator to
be distributed. If you have a message you'd like distributed to the group,
please send it to yunker@..., with the words "bikerace group" in the
subject line. Please include your name, and keep the message clear and
*brief*.
Finally, all messages distributed to the group will have the author's name
and email address at the top of the message text. If you wish to contact
the author, please do so directly; do not reply to the bikerace moderator.
Best wishes to all for a healthy, enjoyable, and successful racing season.
Remember - KTRSD (keep the rubber side down).

Professional cyclists Greg LeMond, Frankie Andreu, Frank McCormack to
visit Brookfield Wheel and Sprocket
BROOKFIELD, Wis. (December 12, 2001) - A Who's Who of American cycling
will visit the Brookfield Wheel and Sprocket on Wednesday, December
19.
Three-time Tour de France winner Greg LeMond, nine-time Tour de France
competitor and Olympian Frankie Andreu, and former USPRO Criterium
Champion and International Cycling Classic winner Frank McCormack will
sign autographs, mingle with the crowd, and share their experiences as
professional cyclists.
"This is an unprecedented opportunity for sports enthusiasts from
around the area to meet and greet three of the most respected cyclists
in America," says Chris Kegel, president of Wheel and Sprocket.
Activities will be held at the Brookfield Wheel and Sprocket, 13925
Capitol Drive, Brookfield, beginning at 6 p.m. with a meet and greet
session. A full program begins at 7 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m., and
includes a raffle of pro items and a poster signing.
In 1996, LeMond became the first American to win the world's most
prestigious multi-day sporting event, the Tour de France. His
determination and skill became evident when he came back from a near-
fatal hunting accident to win the Tour de France in 1989 and 1990.
Frankie Andreu is a two-time Olympian and the only American rider to
complete the rigorous Tour de France an incredible nine times. As a
member of the United States Postal Service, Andreu was an integral
part of the team that helped catapult Lance Armstrong to victory. He
will present a slide show of the 2001 Tour de France.
Frank McCormack is a familiar name cycling enthusiasts in southeastern
Wisconsin. He's a steady presence on the Saturn cycling team and a
former champion of the International Cycling Classic (Superweek).
McCormack will be sharing his training and racing regimen, giving a
glimpse into what it takes to be a professional cyclist.
"We are excited to have these three exceptional cyclists here," Kegel
says. "We encourage all sports enthusiasts to come out and 'Meet the
Pros'."

Greetings everyone,
The results of the Ripon Jazz Fest Wisconsin Criterium Championships,
held June 16, 2001, are now posted at www.truesport.com.
Congratulations to the winners! There were some hard fought races on
the new circuit. I think it is a fairly difficult, yet well balanced,
course that does not favor any particular type of rider. I got many
positive comments on it, so I hope we have found our Championship
course for a while.
Many thanks to all our event sponsors! Orv's Pizza, especially, for
taking the title sponsor role. Their financial support enabled us the
freedom to stage a better event. Attitude Sports of Fond du Lac did a
fantastic job in the wheel pit and brought tons of primes. Ripon
Piggly Wiggly provided the food for the Courtesy Tent, which was very
welcomed by hungry racers and event workers! Bremner Foods provided
as many Rippin' Good Cookies as we could give away, and eat! Other
sponsors include Rudy Project, Humana Dental, Fond du Lac Cyclery,
Appleton Bike, Pedro's, Huberty and Associates CPA, and Leonardo. If I
missed anyone, please forgive me.
With all the merchandise support and my special invention, the "Late
Fee Cash Prime Pot", we almost had more stuff and cash than we could
give away! I think the announcer might have got carpal tunnel syndrome
from ringing the prime bell. It was a hoot!
I want to thank all the riders who came to Ripon. I realize there were
some difficult schedule conflicts, and I hope next year we'll be able
to work on that. I hope everyone found the event to be worthy of
Championship status and that a good time was had by all!
As things now stand, I've already got the wheels turning to improve on
the event for next year. The Friday Night Shootout was a lot of fun,
and will be back. The Saturday race, with the later start times and
twilight finish, seems to work well. It is my hope and desire to
continue to build on this and create an even better event for next
year!
I always welcome feedback and comments (good or bad) about the event,
and ideas for the future. Feel free to contact me.
