I have had similar issues. I don't know who enforces
the bikes-only signs, but evidently no great effort is
spared to that end.

the santa monica pier. I usually leave at daybreak (around 6:15 DST )
and return around 9:00am. I ride only week days and I wondered who is
legally responsible for the path. Is it LA County, or the cities that
it goes thru. I am tired of having to go around joggers, joggers with

Calling all bike industry and advocacy folk -- both big and small.
Cyclists Inciting Change thru LIVE Exchange (CICLE), in partnership with the City of Pasadena, and the One Colorado, invites you to be an exhibitor at the 2nd Annual Urban Bicycle Commuter Expo happening during Bike Week Pasadena 2008, on Saturday, May 17, 2008 in Old Pasadena.
This day-long salute to the Urban Bicyclist is the crowning event of the greater Bike Week Pasadena 2008 celebration. Local bike shops, bike manufacturers, accessory manufacturers, cottage industry vendors, and local advocacy groups will come together to present the latest bicycles, fashion, gear, and information emerging from the ultra-hot urban bike commuter scene. Last year's Expo was bustling, and the Urban Bicycle Commuter Expo 2008 promises to be a greater success.
The Expo presents a unique opportunity to connect with the both the existing and burgeoning cycling community at the high-profile One Colorado shopping district in historic Old Pasadena. One Colorado houses several retail giants and restaurants -- and provides LOTS of foot traffic.
Exhibitor space is extremely limited, and is available on a first come first serve basis.

Thanks very much for the info!! Any particular hazards or unique

6-7' high. locked with padlock and chain, from concrete wall
to chainlink on channel side of path. Impassable without
serious effort (and, really, one person on each side to really
get bikes over).
Even when you got over the gate the county wasn't making it easy.
There were two crews working on the bike path Monday. One was
cleaning the trash from the storm. Another looked like it was doing
graffiti removal. Both almost had the path totally blocked. One guy
had his pickup truck door open while he talked on his cell phone.
This completely blocked the path until he noticed me waiting. As far
as I can tell the county considers the path a maintenance access road
and doesn't worry about safety and access for anyone else. I've never
seen them cone off their equipment or flag the path when they create
a single lane around their trucks.
Don Hayashi
I think you are referring to the gates West of Overland Blvd in Culver
City. I think they installed them to herd the kids that use the
pedestrian bridge there. They close them during storms so the kids can
use the bridge but are discouraged from walking along the bike path
when the water is high. I make it a point to never ride the path there
when the middle school lets out at 2:20 pm. The boys at that age seem
to need to prove themselves by harassing the bicyclists as they pass.
Plus they are not looking and don't expect anyone to be riding through.

I was surprised they opened the gates at all! I always thought that they were closed off to limit wildlife and other feral things on our streets from overtaking the bikepaths.
