Thank you, Herb. That Metro map is certainly useful.
After I sent the message I realized I shoul have stated that it is an extension to the existing path. The bikepath previously started / ended at Hubbard, where the Metrolink station is at. The newer portion is at the north end, between Hubbard and Roxford. I was using my memory from months ago when I said that it went to Polk.
For those that are interested, the older portion is on the north side of the railroad tracks, opposite San Fernando Road and the new portion is on the south side of the tracks, between the tracks and San Fernando Road.
It will be very useful if they are able to extend the bikepath north of Roxford, since there is a squeeze there with very little room for bikes along San Fernando Road. There are also a few turns, and the combination of turns and limited space makes that portion of San Fernando Road dangerous. There are many big trucks that go fast along there. Yet San Fernando Road and Foothill Boulevard are the only roads that bicyclists can use to go through the Newhall Pass between the San Fernando Valley and the Santa Clarita Valley. Foothill Boulevard is nearly as bad as San Fernando Road but Foothill Boulevard has more elevation gain and loss. If it is possible to use a portion of the area between San Fernando Road and the tracks (as they already did for the new portion of the bikepath) then that would make that area much safer for bikes and such.
The portion I am talking about is actually north of Balboa, and there is an existing bikepath that goes up Balboa to San Fernando Road. It is the extension along San Fernando Road north from Balboa that will be most useful.
