I know a guy will take venice blvd bike lanes to downtown LA. I don't
know what he does from there. But interestingly, I believe he comes
from walnut to I think Marina Del Rey or Venice as a daily commute. I
think he works at a bike shop in Walnut. The lanes on venice are
generally very wide from downtown LA to Venice for most of the route.
I think there are some segments on the east side of that segment that
don't have lanes. From downtown to walnut I am not sure. But I know of
a website that has a full map with all the lanes, paths and various
class bike road designations mapped out. And from what I understand
you plug in your starting point and end point and create parameters
like "flat""hilly" "easy" (as is safe) or "hard" as in a little more
dangerous for cyclists. And then it pops out a map with written
directions that you can print out. (ref: htt://www.bikemetro.com
