Mark asked: <<<Does anyone have a safe route to Long beach (perfebally
theBelmont/Naples area of Long beach)>>>
I have made the trip a lot. The easiest way is to take the beach path south to
Imperial, then go east on Imperial (which has a proper bike lane) to Aviation.
Get on the Green Line at Aviation, and go east. At the Rosa Parks Station, get
off and transfer to the Blue Line going south. Get off at the Long Beach Transit
Mall, and get a refreshment at the combination cafe/bike repair shop. Then ride
south past the convention center to the beach, and take the bike path to the
Belmont/Naples area.
An alternate route is to take the Green Line to it's eastern terminus. From
there you can pick up the San Gabriel River bike trail which will take you
towards Long Beach. It will end somewhere around Alamitos Bay, so you can get
off sooner, and take 2nd Street towards Belmont/Naples. More info on the bike
path is available at http://www.labikepaths.com/
If you want a greater challenge, pull out your Thomas Guide. You take the South
Bay bike trial all the way past Redondo Beach, then take Catalina Ave towards
Palos Verdes. Make a left on Palos Verdes Drive North, and go east. Shortly
after you cross Normandie, make a right on Anaheim Street, and continue east,
and enjoy your visit to a very industrial part of town, as well as very
middle-class neighborhoods. Just after you cross over the Long Beach Freeway,
take your very next right turn, and follow the road around intil you see the
entrance to the Long Beach River bike path. Head south, and in a couple of miles
you will pass thru the Shoreline Village area, pssing the Long Beach Aquarium.
Contunie south along the beach, and you will reach the Naples/Belmont area.
P.S. I subscribe to this list in Digest mode, which means that your 2nd request
for info, which was placed on June 21st, did not reach me until July 9th. Does
anyone know if there is a way to increase the frequency of the digests?
