Steed is clear and ridable.  The cruel summer killed many trees and the grass
looks like it's still dormant from the year before, but for mountain bikers the
weedeating from last winter has been preserved along the parts I have seen.
Corey has ridden out there and the parts he saw were clear.  I wonder about the
green brier area deep in the east loop.

An old shortcut has been reopened.  After you start above the bait shop, go
left at the Y, go right at another fork as you come downhill (grassy), this
takes you to the base of a technical steep climb next to a sloped rock wall.
You then cross a high meadow and come out at the main trail under some
evergreens.  Or if you stop just short of the main trail, you will see a short
link going left (east) that takes you over to the other main trail that comes up
from the park road.  This is where that main trail crosses the solid rocky creek
and kicks uphill on its way towards the Two-Way crossing / Step-Drop area.

A small loop has been cleared that we call the Altus loop, after some Altus
riders who marked it a few years ago for a warm-up.  Go left at the Y, then left
at the next fork (rock), and you come back out near the pavilion area.  So if
you start near the pavilion/bait shop area, you have small and medium loops as
needed.

Somebody's been riding, I've seen tire tracks out there.  Tell your non-biking
friends it's a nice hiking trail, with a big rocky hill to climb above it.  A
quick and easy hiking choice if you don't want to commit to a big hike in the
refuge.  A map of the main trail can be found at ridesteed.com or
okearthbike.com.

Hi Scott
I came in from Happy hollow and took the first dirt road after the cattle guard
.
The trail head is just to your left if facing north. You start of the wildlife
side go across a small creek.
Just follow it to set of stair. You see a sign about dates. That went I started

Another good ride that is just up the road from there is the Firebreak
Road. It's a 6 1/2 to 7 mile out and back (so 14 total) on the fire road
that starts just up the road toward Mt Scott from the trailhead you guys
are talking about and ends at the Parallel Forest. It's not single track,
but it's got some serious climbing. We've been grinding it out on our
singlespeeds for some great hill training:) Naturally if you go up you get
to go down:)

I contacted head of Law Enforcement Command, Bob Pirtle, he states there is
no way around getting on Ft. Sill except through authorized gates that are
open. No exceptions.

That being said ................ Could one leave on ones own volition, at points
other than "authorized gates" i.e. to access Hwy 49 or the Wildlife refuge???

I contacted head of Law Enforcement Command, Bob Pirtle, he states there is
no way around getting on Ft. Sill except through authorized gates that are
   open. No exceptions.

I noticed the new gates are complete at Letra this evening....... Is
there anyone we can discuss with on base, that may allow us to access via
the barbed wire fence??? Let me know if you have any ideas Thanks Tom

Larry I don't see why they wouldn't fit. As far as I know most cranks are
standard and standard pedals fit most cranks.

the water crossing may be dry but the road out to letra is being resurfaced.
it has some really bad grooves cut into it so be careful if you go on a letra

WHO IS JOSEPH KONY?
JOSEPH KONY IS THE WORLD'S WORST WAR CRIMINAL. IN 1987 HE TOOK OVER LEADERSHIP
OF AN EXISTING REBEL GROUP AND RENAMED IT THE LORD'S RESISTANCE ARMY (LRA).

THE LRA HAS EARNED A REPUTATION FOR ITS CRUEL AND BRUTAL TACTICS. WHEN JOSEPH
KONY FOUND HIMSELF RUNNING OUT OF FIGHTERS, HE STARTED ABDUCTING CHILDREN TO BE
SOLDIERS IN HIS ARMY OR "WIVES" FOR HIS OFFICERS. THE LRA IS ENCOURAGED TO RAPE,
MUTILATE, AND KILL CIVILIANS–OFTEN WITH BLUNT WEAPONS.

THE LRA IS NO LONGER ACTIVE IN NORTHERN UGANDA (WHERE IT ORIGINATED) BUT IT
CONTINUES ITS CAMPAIGN OF VIOLENCE IN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO, CENTRAL
AFRICAN REPUBLIC, AND SOUTH SUDAN. IN ITS 26-YEAR HISTORY, THE LRA HAS ABDUCTED
MORE THAN 30,000 CHILDREN AND DISPLACED AT LEAST 2.1 MILLION PEOPLE.

WHAT IS THE GOAL OF KONY 2012?
INVISIBLE CHILDREN HAS BEEN WORKING FOR 9 YEARS TO END AFRICA'S LONGEST-RUNNING
ARMED CONFLICT. U.S. MILITARY ADVISERS ARE CURRENTLY DEPLOYED IN CENTRAL AFRICA
ON A "TIME-LIMITED" MISSION TO STOP KONY AND DISARM THE LRA. IF KONY ISN'T
CAPTURED THIS YEAR, THE WINDOW WILL BE GONE.

WE ARE TAKING ACTION TO ENSURE THESE TWO THINGS:
1) THAT JOSEPH KONY IS KNOWN AS THE WORLD'S WORST WAR CRIMINAL.

2) THAT U.S. AND INTERNATIONAL EFFORTS TO STOP KONY ARE BOLSTERED WITH A MORE
COMPREHENSIVE STRATEGY FOR DISARMAMENT, DEMOBILIZATION, AND REINTEGRATION (DDR).

WHY ARE WE MAKING JOSEPH KONY "FAMOUS"?
INVISIBLE CHILDREN'S KONY 2012 CAMPAIGN AIMS TO MAKE JOSEPH KONY FAMOUS, NOT TO
CELEBRATE HIM, BUT TO RAISE SUPPORT FOR HIS ARREST AND SET A PRECEDENT FOR
INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE. IN THIS CASE, NOTORIETY TRANSLATES TO PUBLIC SUPPORT. IF
PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT THE CRIMES THAT KONY HAS BEEN COMMITTING FOR 26 YEARS, THEY
WILL UNITE TO STOP HIM.

SECONDLY, WE WANT KONY TO BE FAMOUS SO THAT WHEN HE IS STOPPED, HE WILL BE A
VISIBLE, CONCRETE EXAMPLE OF INTERNATIONAL JUSTICE. THEN OTHER WAR CRIMINALS
WILL KNOW THAT THEIR MASS ATROCITIES WILL NOT GO UNNOTICED OR UNPUNISHED.
