The new Camp Ingawanis IMBCS Race Date is set for Sunday August 2nd. We will
still be making a weekend of it with a trail run Saturday AM and mountain bike
time trials in the afternoon. I've got cabin and tent spots available for
Friday and Saturday nights if interested. Post up or contact me with questions/
requests.

Glad this will work out and apologize for any inconvenience.

Just an FYI,

Unless things change soon, there is still 100 yards of gravel to negotiate in
Oakville, the remains of 08 flood damage to HWY 99, not to mantion shoulder
damage that exists for the next two miles south.

Could be a race changer!

Matt

New drastic Colorado cycling safety bill on the way to governor

  (http://www.everymantri.com/.a/6a00d83451b18a69e20115705ce468970b-pi) A
new Colorado bill that would give bicyclist greater protection from
aggressive drivers in on the way to the governor's desk.
The new bill, which mandates that cars give cyclist at least three feet
when passing and allows cars to cross the double yellow in order to do so, has
been approved by the state legislature and in expected to be signed by the
  governor.
According to the bill's sponsors the bill also:
"- clarifies that bicyclists may pass one another or ride side-by-side if
they are not impeding the normal and reasonable movement of traffic.

- Language in the bill makes throwing an object towards a bicyclist a class
2 misdemeanor and driving towards a bicyclist in a dangerous manner a
careless driving offense."
But some law enforcement officials in the state worry that the bill
provides too much legal cover for cyclist.
Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle says that the "bill goes to far," and "It
will be very difficult or impossible to enforce anything against the
cyclists"
According to the Boulder Daily Camera:
"He said language that allows cyclists to ride in the middle of mountain
roads or two-abreast, for example, could lead to increased conflict between
riders and drivers.
"There's really nothing now that requires them (cyclists) to yield or move
over," Pelle said. "This bill gives them full access to the road."
However the group sponsoring the bill hails it as a significant victory for
  cyclists in America.
"Bicycle Colorado is heading our state's movement to gain equal treatment
for bicyclists," said Dan Grunig, executive director of Bicycling Colorado.
"This bill takes a big step toward improving safety for everyone on
Colorado roads."

kim's comments: do colorado prosecutors possess balls and ovaries big
enough to ENFORCE these provisions?

Hello all,

Due to all of the rain that we have received this spring, IMBCS #2, scheduled
for this weekend, May 2 & 3th at Camp Ingawanis will have to be postponed to a
date to be determined. Words from the race director, Jeremy Bidwell, "Spent some
time assessing the trail system last night and again this morning, and we have
some major flooding going on affecting a majority of the North side trails and
South side trails. Even if it stayed dry until the weekend (which is unlikely
with the forecast) it will be a muddy mess, and still have unpassable sections.
We have re-routed in the past but am not fond of 3-4 mile loops when there is so
much more to offer. Out of concern for rider's travel time and expense, damage
to bicycle's, and a substandard experience, I am planning on rescheduling the
event". Words of wisdom. Jeremy and I will spend the next few days going over
some options for a reschedule date. As soon as we come up with a date that will
work, you will be among the first to know!

Until then, race updates can be found at: www.ingawanismtb.blogspot.com

Just wanted to express my sincere gratitude to everyone for making this
weekend's races so successful. All the sponsors who support the event, all the
volunteers who help set up, work, and tear down, all the corner marshals who
keep things safe, the officials (you know, for whatever it is they do), the
spectators, the kids who came out and raced around the block in the kids races,
the racers, and everyone else. It was a blast to make happen and be a part of,
and I'm looking forward it all over again next year.

THANK YOU!

Thanks to all you race promoters, sponsors, volunteers and racers for a great
time at the race yesterday. Great to see so many people and glad the weather
held steady for most of the day. World cyclo-tourist Mauro Heck was out there
and he took some great photos, for those of you that don't know him or where to
find the pics I got you covered.

Enjoy!

May your road rash heal quickly and/or your recovery rides be effectual,

to view the entire [only 13 minutes] video of the rally for madison county
farmer john lynch, the old coot who ran over cyclist doug smith a couple
weeks ago, and for which he was fined $35 [no doubt, "plus costs and fees"],
go here: _http://www.kxno.com/pages/kimwest.html_
(http://www.kxno.com/pages/kimwest.html)
go to the top entry [until i after next sunday's episode], and read
"the rally for john lynch, april 20, 2009." the video link is contained in
the text.
and then please, let's have a discussion of this thing.
]oh, note: this thing lasted less than 15 minutes, and was attended
by fewer than 100 people. compare THAT to the 500+ who road bicycles to an
hour-plus event on the capitol steps. let's see, 530 roll-out until about
700 pm. that says something about our dedication, eh?]
now, you won't see blood curdling screams, or zombie-like human
impersonators [well, maybe], but if you listen and watch carefully, you see
that
many of these folks ARE different than you and me.
one good thing is that this issue IS being discussed on MANY seemingly
unlikely places. it should be incumbent upon ALL of us to speak up and
NOT let the motoring public continue to take advantage of us.
a technical note: after attempting youtube, my friendly AOL, and
facebook to post this video, i went to the pros for this one, and had it posted
by the technical wizard of clear channel radio in des moines, danny
bishop. sorry for the delay; i'll know better next time.
by the way, THIS sunday's episode WILL be back on AM1460, KXNO, as
well as kxno.com. we will talk about the old capitol road race and criterium,
in a "live from iowa city" broadcast at 600 pm sunday.

The road surface at Waterworks Park is inadequate to hold the races at this
time.

We can't get a definite time frame on when the repairs will be done, so, at this
time we cannot schedule any races.

If repairs are made, we'll do our best to put something together.

Thanks

Good catch James,

This is where I thought Milly Ortiz could play a role. She is the state's
Bike & Ped coordinator for the IDOT.
http://www.sysplan.dot.state.ia.us/Emp/ortiz.htm

per the IDOT website:
http://www.sysplan.dot.state.ia.us/main_planning.htm#Bicycle/Pedestrian%20%20Pla\
nning
The Office of Systems Planning is involved in preparing and publishing a
Bicycle and Pedestrian System Plan which will guide the development of an
integrated network of bicycle and pedestrian facilities. *This plan also
includes a number of issues and concerns, along with possible initiatives to
help resolve some of these issues.  The initiatives focus on infrastructure;
safety, education, and enforcement; information and promotion; and
coordination.*

I've asked for the creation of bicycling safety PSAs several times in the
last few years with very little response though.

I saw a blurb in the McNews this morningnd tracked down the whole report. It
certainly looks like it has some applicability given the current state of
"road sharing" that seems to be in evidence.
