June 15,2008 at the Iowa Research, Commerce, & Technology Park in Davenport
Iowa.  Racing will start at 10:30am.

DICE & the Coffee Hound!!

The Tubie Tootie 50k TT will be Sat. May 31 on the Black Diamond Rd.  Take the
Black Diamond Rd off Hwy 1 and go down to the first paved road on the right and
park along the  east shoulder (leave as much room as possible for farm machinery
to get down this road).  Registration will begin at 7:00 and first rider is off
at 8:00.  Cost is $13.  Course is out and back and fairly flat.  You may ride
this TT solo or work with one other rider but will be scored as individuals at
the finish.
Usual beer and baked goods as awards.

At the 2008 Bicycle, Blues & BBQ Festival (besides the Crit and Road
Race)

The party starts Friday night at 7 p.m. in City Park, right off Main
Street in Clear Lake.  Eat a helping (or two!) of barbecue and enjoy
some soul-revivin' blues.

Saturday's activities begin at 7 a.m., beginning with our three
different rides: a 14-miler around the lake, a 42-miler and a 70-miler
through the beautiful north Iowa countryside. On-site registration will
be held at City Park from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. Registration for the
70-mile ride ends at 9 a.m.

2 Great beaches for a quick dip and close to the events.

State Park Beach located near the road race finish line and site of
the awards presentations.

Omaha, Neb. - Bike Masters Cycling & Fitness will play host to a
special guest this weekend when Team Type 1's Timothy Hargrave joins
the shop's weekly Saturday morning ride in Northwest Omaha.

Timothy Hargrave is a first-year professional for Team Type 1 who
recently helped teammate Glen Chadwick capture two stages and the
overall title at the inaugural Tour of Arkansas. Hargrave, 22, was
diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of six. He began competitive
cycling when he was 12. Next month, the New Zealander will be helping
the team defend its Race Across America eight-person corporate team
titles won in 2006 and 2007. This will be his first visit to Nebraska.

Team Type 1 was created in 2004 by Type 1 diabetes racers Phil
Southerland and Joe Eldridge to inspire people living with diabetes to
take a proactive approach to managing their health and overcoming the
obstacles often associated with the condition. In 2008, a 15-rider
professional continental cycling team was established, which includes
four riders with Type 1 diabetes. Team Type 1 finished third in the
team classification of the Tour de Georgia presented by AT&T.

Saturday's ride begins at 8:30 a.m. from the shop at 129th & Fort. For

Long story short we were coming home from the Melon City Crit and made
it all the way to Hwy 30 just east of Hwy 13 and watched my bike come
out of the roof rack hit the trunk of the car and slam onto the
pavement at about 70 mph.  Thankfully there was noone behind us to run
it over so we stopped backed up and picked up to asses the damage.
Severely dented top tube and really bad looking fork.  Pics can be

interested.

So basically I am looking at something in the size range of 55-56cm and
something relatively inexpensive.  I am just looking for something I
can ride during the week, race on the weekends and have a good time on,
so if you have anything let me know.

A final reminder that the Iowa Randonneurs 300km brevet is this Saturday,
May 31st.

Route goes through Oelwein and Elkader to McGregor and back, almost all on
quiet county roads. You will see (glimpse at least) the Mississippi River!

Start is 7am prompt at the Heartland Inn, 1809 LaPorte Rd., Waterloo.

Entry fee is $10 + $5 day-of-ride surcharge.

Not a race, but I'm sure the front guys will have fun!

that another Bike Lane Friday is comin' 'round:

May 30, the last Friday in May.

Be there to show the public that the bike lane is where the bike is
and that we can and do obey traffic laws.

Suggested route is the one we were going to do in April until the
weather got kinda ugly. No ballgame this time because the Kernels are
in Peoria on May 30, but we can do the loop anyhow:

Meet on the south side of Greene Square Park at 5:30, and plan to
ride together as a group:

Right on 4th Ave. SE to 2nd St. SE
Right on 2nd St. SE to 2nd Ave. SE
Left on 2nd Ave. SE to 3rd Ave. SW
Right to 1st Ave.
Left on 1st Ave.  / Williams Blvd. SW to Edgewood Road.
Left on Edgewood to Wilson Ave. SW.
Left on Wilson to Rockford Road.
Left on Rockford Road past Veterans Memorial Stadium to 3rd Ave. SW
3rd Ave. to Greene Square Park.

There should be plenty of time left to go for a longer ride if you're

i received this comment on my radio show blog from  ed fallon, following a
commentary both in writing and on my show about federal  funding for repair of
the neal smith trail and candidate commitments to push  bicycles as
transporation and not just toys.

to the center in Dallas Center!   Finish on the Raccoon River Trail and
see the construction of a new car dealership in Waukee!

cycling show sunday, june 1st, which airs and streams from  600 to 700 pm
central

I attended the Iowa City Ride of Silence last night which was organized by a
nice guy named Nick through Bicyclists of Iowa City.  I believe there were 23
riders.  I thanked him for putting it together and told him I have lost cycling
friends and he handed me a list of people from Iowa who have been killed or
injured by motorists.  I was surprised to see more names on the list of people I
knew than I thought I would as the ride honors those injured as well as killed. 
This was especially poignant to me as in just the past week two of my riding
friends here in Iowa City have been physically assaulted by motorists.

Thanks to the organizers and riders; state, nation and worldwide.
