Near-perfect weather brought in some sweet times at last night's
Hilly Time Trial. The event included 5 non-aero riders in the
Breakaway division, which goes to show you don't have to have a time
trial bike or aero bars to compete in a time trial. So come out next
week and try it!

I have also enjoyed the site. It is awesome to read the recaps of the
races and I especially like how they have an interview with some of
the more known racers around here, it is a good way to know how they
started and what they have gone through to get where they are.
I check the site about 3-5 times a week, and its great!

I think bikeiowa.org and the bikeiowa yahoo group are invaluable for
Iowa cycling. The purpose and function of those sites are different
then our site at CyclingUpdate.com. The IBRA is a lot more official.
Not to say that we don't try to get the facts straight, but we have
room for a little more fluff, race reports, op-ed and reviews as well
as all our race information and sponsor stuff. We are in no way a
governing body and our forum sucks.
CyclingUpdate.com has been a lot of fun and is doing some good
things, but its doesn't hold a candle to the community that was
created by the bikeiowa yahoo group. We are trying, but the yahoo
group seriously trumps everything else.
Think about this, there is no way that cyclingupdate.com could
mobilize the purchase of a trike in 30 min they way bikeiowa did
earlier this year. Still blows my mind.

Fellow Iowa Bike Racers:
I have always wanted to say something about our www.bikeiowa.org website,
and I feel this would be a good time to bring it up (in lew of the recent
discussions). We have some of the best racing in the Midwest as well as a
hand full of people that have gone very far with their cycling careers and
abilities. Thank you to all the promoters, officials, clubs and racers that
make this possible.
We all know that cycling is getting more and more popular every year and
Iowa is producing some very fine, in some cases world class athletes. With
that in mind why doesn't the association that helps produce these athletes
have a website that reflects that same image http://bikeiowa.org/home.html of
world classness? In the era of fast moving technology and flash this or
adobe that websites, we should be able to produce or hire someone to
produce OUR image of world class cycling in our fine state of Iowa.
I really like what www.CyclingUpdate.com has done with portraying what the
image of Midwest bicycle racing is like. I have looked around at
neighboring states to see what they look like and I must say, they look
good http://bikeiowa.org/Links/Links.html . Some more simple than others
but they all looked good.
I write my thoughts in peace and do not want to offend anyone involved in
creating and updating the bikeiowa.org website. I think something, in most
cases, is better than nothing. I just want our state and association to
look like who we really are; especially when out of staters are looking for
our info or what have you.

Guys on our team are confused and getting silly. The one guy took Bike Iowa
as bikeiowa.com not bikeiowa.org.
In reference to the results, I guess I started this. Our team feels that the
results from events that we put on are our property and as such ours to
leverage with our sponsors. It is of great value to our sponsors that we get
their logs and ads all over the place and generate more exposure. Posting
our results on our page insures more traffic to our site and more exposure
and ultimately value for our sponsors. Thus posting the results for the Iowa
Cup or our other races to bikeiowa.org is bad marketing. The Iowa Cup is not
a creation of BikeIowa.org, OUR team put that together, in specific Lane, it
we did it for kicks, but the sponsors want exposure as do our riders.

Lane,
I think that CyclingUpdate is a great resource for racers. I think the
amount of work you and fellow contributors put in is a big sacrifice and
looks to be somewhat underappreciated and misconstrued as selfish. I don't
believe this is the case at all but rather that it illustrates the growing
number of cyclists and niches we find ourselves drawn towards. Thanks for
all the great work.

This Sunday is the Hummer Hammer USACagain, it will be held along side the Quad
Cities Air Show. Come enjoy a day of racing while the USAF Thunderbirds and
other flight demonstrations fly overhead.
Also bring your young racers for a special 10-14 year old race at 12:15. This
is the perfect venue to get your child involved in bike racing in a fun and safe
event designed just for them. Plus, they compete for the same "prized”
Hummer's that are up for grabs in all the other race categories.
Bring your lawn chairs, cooler, and plan to stay the day. We have great food
vendors and plenty of grassy area to Party right in the middle of the race

One of the great things about being an official is the grandstand seats
you get by working. Often times riders will ask me who won the sprint.
Unfortunately, most of the times all we see our numbers, or jersey
colors. It isn't until afterwards that I can look at the results and
find out who finsished where.
One name and number you won't see in the results from Mondays Womens 1-
2-3 race is Andrea Venteicher. I was watching the back straight and the
second to the last corner as we always do on the last lap when several
riders made contact and fell hard to the pavement near the hotel.
Andrea must have been close enough to the fall to see it was going to
involve some significant medical aid. She safely extracted herself out
of the sprinting field and turned around and went back to the fallen
riders to render aid.
By the time I got there, Andrea had assisted with getting all three
riders initially checked out and stayed with the rider with a
significant head injury. Watching a rider who seconds before was
pushing hard to get a finishing place render professional triage care
was just phenominal.
Officials get to see some pretty silly stuff sometimes, some even angry
and tense but I was just made a believer again in the good of bike
racers and our community.
You all know about the hippocratic oath, a teammates bond and all of
the things a Doctor is expected to do. But Andrea demonstrated to me
that some of the winning moves have nothing to do with the finishing
line

Thanks for the kind words. One thing I'll mention just to make sure
