Planet X Bikes (North America) are expanding the grass roots program supporting
the racing of their owners. I am very pleased to announce Team Planet X Tyros
and Team Planet X Masters. Not only will the program be open to triahletes as in
06, but for 2007 will also encompass USA Cycling registered teams.
Team Planet X Tyros: This team for both triathletes and road cyclists replaces
the grass roots program for 2007. Team Planet X Tyros is only open to owners of
Planet X bikes. Owners who wish to race in Planet X colors, get cool swag and
discounts on gear should send resumes and a short statement of why you'd like to
be part of Team PX Tyros to: resumes@...
Team Planet X Masters: This is a USA Cycling Masters Team focused on time trial
and track racing. The team will have a total of 10 members for 2007. Members
will be required to race exclusively on Planet X bikes (you do not currently
have to have a PX bike). This will be a well supported factory team. I have a
few invitations out to riders, but am also seeking resumes for the remaining
spots. You should be a serious racer, with good results, influential in your
area and committed to building a top masters team and Planet X brand
recognition. Send me your resume and a statement of why you should be in the
select group picked for Team Planet X Masters. You can send me your stuff at:
ric@...
It's great to have the exciting opportunity to Captain Team Planet X, and to
help take the Planet X brand and support of the racing athlete to new levels.
Watch for an announcement of the members of Team Planet X Masters soon.
Cheers,
Ric Gordon

The Bike World Ames/CICC Roller Race will be held Sunday Feb 11th at the Ames
Bike World (126 S 3rd St ). As usual, registration starts at 11 and first pair
off at noon.  This year our twist is category records.  Below is a list of
the fastest recorded times I could find in each roller race category. If I
missed a faster ride, please let me know. If any of these category records is
broken, the owner of the record at the end of racing will get an extra $10 added
to any prize money they win. If the overall mens' or womens' record is broken,
the owner of the record at the end of racing will receive an addtional $40. So
if Nicole was to run the fastest womens' time of the day and break the
womens' overall record with a 5:59.9, she would win $30 regular prize money +
$10Â + $40= $80 total
Â
Cat 1/2  Lee Venteicher     5:12.8  01/27/01
Cat 3    Tracy Thompson   5:11.8  01/28/07------------Mens' Overall
Cat 4     Tracy Thompson   5:22.8  01/09/05
Cat 5    Steve Settle      5:30.4  02/25/06
Wom.    Connie Inks         6:08.9  02/25/06------------Wmns'
Overall
Jr           Adam Price    5:54.6  01/19/03
40+       Dan Reasoner     5:26.6   02/22/04
50+       Tom Eaton        5:31.9  02/25/06
60+       John Adamson     5:57.0  01/29/06
Â
Looking at the racing this year, a number of these records look beatable.Â
Nicole Leroux has run strongly from the gun. Tracy Thompson's awesome
ride and Tony Kisch's 1st mile last Sunday, not to mention Peter Sharis' 5:15.2
roller race debut, makes even 5:11.8 look beatable. Zach VanderHorst has run
faster as a 4 than the current Jr record.  Shawn Loomis has run within .3
seconds of the 40+ record and Tom Eaton has yet to start racing. And then
there's John Adamson........... Let the records fall. Also, with Greg's
permission we'll put in the tandem extension and do a tandem roller demo after
the official racing so bring your stoker .  See you next Sunday.Â

We will be having another roller race at Donnie's Indoor Cycling Experience
on Sat, Feb 10th starting at 12pm. This race will replace the race that
DMOS was going to hold on the same day. The venue that they were going to
use could not do the race so I offered my place. This race will have the
same format as my previous race: CompuTrainer races as part of the Winter
Indoor Series at 9, 10 and 11am, rollers with Greg Harpers set-up starting
at noon, Rick Paulos' log rollers (so bring your MTB's or Cross bikes.or if
you are Lee V just use your road bike) and we will do the 2-UP 3D
CompuTrainer races on a 3 mile flat course. I will post a reminder closer
to the weekend with the info about what course we will use for that weekends
racing. So rather than driving two hours for a 7 minute race.come on over
and race a few races the same day.

The past 4 or 5 days, yahoo groups has been having problems. The result is
some messages are coming thru a bit late, like 3 or 4 days late!
Yahoo groups has hundreds of thousands of groups and gets millions of
messages every day and a gazillion spams every day to filter, it's amazing
to me it works as well as it has.
Browsing: 88 different groups on dumpster diving, 98 on Kerry & Edwards 04
campaign, 117 on roller coasters, 358 on VooDoo, 37,840 on parenting. Okay
maybe over 1,000,000 groups....

In 1999 when Ragbrai passed thru Dyersville, many of us got together to
visit Dan Bockestedt's grave site. I'd like to suggest we do this
again. It will be 10 years this fall since Dan was killed. Meet on the
steps of the Basilica of St. Francis Xavier as we did last time for a group
photo and ride to the cemetary. It's less than 2 miles. Friday, July 27,
2007. Time of day? I'm thinking 5 pm so everyone will have time to make
it in from the road. Dan's brother, Paul, says he will try to attend as well.

Still a few cold days left to log a January dirty century! Note, however, that
one does not need to log a century in each month to earn a cup 'o dirt - you can
log them in 12 straight days, if ya want.... The first update is posted here:

With the racing season creeping up on us, I guess it is as good as time as any
to make a few Bee announcements. As last year we will have a summer series this
year on Saturdays, a TT series this year on Thursdays and a Fall series that
includes half of the events being on pavement (you can get in the drawings
without having to ride the gravel). Jason Weldon has once again used his
Scheels connections to make great end of the series drawings possible. All
three series will give away a power tap SL built into a Mavic wheel. You will
need to race half of any one series to be part of the series drawing. I would
like to take this chance to thank Caseys Convenience Stores for making this
possible.
Once again the Bees will be heading up the multiple club Le Bon Doc Tour. This
event came off great last year with many pediatric cancer patients getting to go
to a Build A Bear party to make a little friend to share their long road ahead.
Although DICE and HBA have yet to make final commitments this looks like it will
be a six day stage race. The weekday stages will be 15 miles or less making
them doable for the working athlete. I figure after 3 or 4 days 15 miles will
be enough for most of us. I intend to keep working on this up to the time of
the race to make it as enjoyable as possible. Any clubs interested in becoming
part of it, can as they did last year, commit for the cost of a helmet to be
raffled at the end. You will not need to race all stages but the more points,
the better your chances and for many of us the better understanding we will have
of the guys that do this kind of stuff.
Last but most urgent, Kent Park will once again be a pre register event only.
Michael Edwards will once again be handling registration.
Registration is now open and you may send your standard release form and a check
for $13 made out to Two Bee Racing. Michael Edwards

Looking forward to another great season.

Recent announcements from the winter meeting of the National Committee
for Uniform Traffic Control Devices have been highlighted the
endorsement of the Sharrow or shared lane pavement marking. The new
traffic control device was studied extensively in Denver and San
Fransisco and helped bicyclists in urban enviroments ride in a safe
position in the traffic lane, avoid the door zone, and travel with the
flow of traffic. The study also indicated that motor vehicles used a
wider distance to pass bicyclists if a sharrow was present.
Want to know more? The chair of the NCUTCD bicycling committee will
