Easy...the "French officials" did not throw anyone out. The policy was
agreed upon by the team directors and ASO. If anyone had a rider on the
Operation Puerto list, the rider would be ejected and not replaced.

I can't believe this. On the eve of the TdF, the French officials have
thrown out 3 of the top 4 contenders from last year's TdF. Ullrich,
Basso, and Mancebo have been thrown out of the TdF on suspicion of
doping. Many others have been eliminated as well.

I can't imagine it's true. The French riders are weak again this year
and just about every other country has a major contender except
France. I hope the evidence the TdF officials have is overwhelming
because if not, then this makes the TdF officials look like cry-babies
all over again...like spoiled children that won't let anyone ride
their race unless they get to win it themsleves. If it is true, then
it will be very hard for procycling to recover from this scandel at
such a high level.

John

Thanks to Bridget, Donnie, Zugs and of course Conn, and everyone welse
ho helped on Stage 1 of this weekend's Stage race. Stage 1 results can
be seen in lights on the www.jinglecrossrock.com website.

Stages 2 and 3 are independant of Stage 1. You can race tomorrow even
if you didn't do today's event. You can race Sunday, too. Why not do
both? We had 23 riders so far...That's about 23 bears for the children
with cancer at The Children's Hospital of Iowa. Can we get to 100 by
Sunday?....

Directions to the events are on the www.2BeerRacing.com and
www.JingleCrossRock.com websites

See you tomorrow...and see you Sunday

Its gonna be interesting now. Besides Valverde and Evans, I dont think
any other foreigner can win. Yaroslov Popovich, Hincapie, Levi and
Landis will tear it apart.

Believe it... The timing of this may well have to do more with a power struggle
between the ASO (Amary Sport Organisation
http://www.aso.fr/2005/cyclisme/us/tdf01.html) and ProTour (read - UCI). The
real damage to the sport is the media circus/trial that seems to be playing out
at the present. The ASO seems to be moving much more swiftly than the UCI to
take the doping issue on.

Now where do I find my "Dopers Suck" jersey for RAGBRAI?

it should be interesting t osee how quickly oln can update their stuff:
tour programming begins tonight at 600, with one last lance show, and then a
"recap special" [presumably one more last lance show] and then, at 800, a
tour preview.

You're right Rev... just because they can handle copious amounts of EPO and
day-long mountainous climbs doesn't mean they have what it takes to handle a
case of MGD, miscellaneous pork products, and a sag wagon.

And you're right again in that... "it isn't ALL about the bike"... in many
ways it's about the stereo you have duct taped to it.

In stunning news, Jan Ullrich announced that he will withdraw from the Tour de
France and ride RAGBRAI. Ullrich, the perennial bridesmaid in the TdF, said
that he wishes to confront long time rival Lance Armstrong. "I vil crush him in
the Biergarten. Then I vil don the Maize Jersey". Armstrong could not be

After discussing it with several people, it has been decided that if you are in
a category of 4 or less people, you may be combined with another small category
in the helmet raffle. This way we can throw an extra helmet into one of the
other categories so all people have an equal chance of winning. Since the last
info, IA Orthopaedics Team has thrown in a helmet and Scheels has donated a
helmet to be raffled among the category winners. However, you are only allowed
to win one helmet. This just improves your chances. The TT is actually 8.6
miles not 15k (ran out of road).
Sounds like we may be on the TV and in the newspaper. Hope to see you all
there.

The North Iowa Touring Club has announced that North Iowa pro-cyclist,
Tom Zirbel, will be participating in the USCF sanctioned road race to
be held in conjunction with the Bicycle, Blues and BBQ Festival in
Clear Lake on Sunday, July 9, 2006.

Tom rides for Priority Health Cycling Team—one of only 15
International Cycling Union Continental teams in the United States.
Managed and based in Michigan, the team's roster features a core of
Michigan's top talent together with additional riders recruited from
throughout the US and from Australia and New Zealand.

Tom grew up in North Iowa and graduated from Wartburg College in
Waverly. He joins us fresh from a win of the prologue time trial at
the 14th annual Tour De Nez which kicked off Thursday, June 22, 2006,
in Verdi, Nevada.

In addition to the race Sunday morning, Tom will participate in the
family bike ride Saturday morning, July 8; and he will be present in
Clear Lake's beautiful downtown City Park to sign autographs early
that afternoon. Please make a point to stop buy to make Tom's
acquaintance.

Coming your way - the METAMORA 4X50!

This is a UMCA (Ultramarathon Cycling Association) event and a
Double
Century in the John Marino Championship series!

This is a timed event that should be of interest to ultra-cyclists
of all
types - including recumbent and HPV riders and anyone who wants to
see how
fast they can do a double. At other Big Dog events, we have been
told that
there are too few race/rides for recumbents, and the like. So here
is your
chance to help start something in central Illinois!

The route is a 50 mile 'square' that is almost flat - there is only
one
noticeable hill in the entire course. Roads are paved agricultural
roads -
low traffic and passing through a few very small Illinois towns.
There will
be a checkpoint at the 25 mile point and the main timing station at
Black
Partridge State Forest just outside of Metamora. There will be water
and
supplies at these stations, but since the each lap ends at the start
finish - most riders can be self-supported.

For riders that don't want to do that many miles, there are 50 and
100 mile
options.

Metamora is notheast of Peoria, Illinois. We have motel rooms
reserved at
reduced rates in nearby Washington, IL.

Triton Homes/MSN had a 5 second lead first lap and then 25 seconds after
the second lap but dropped a rider and lost too much time on the 3rd
lap. ICCC finished all 4 riders which made the difference. Cooler weather
helped everyone go faster this year. Only the last DMOS team on the road
got caught in the wind & sand from the front. They finished just minutes
before the downpour.

Just a reminder that the weekend of Fri. June 30 thru Sunday July 2 is the
multiple club 3 day 4 stage race. Friday is the 15k Roc Doc Clock Rock TT
starting at 6:00 with registration from 5:15 to 6:30 pm at the West Branch Fire
Dept. take exit 254 off I80 go into town, at the 4 way stop go right a block and
turn right again. It's across the street from the Caseys gas station.

Saturday will be the Bee Line 29. Registration is at 7:15 and race begins at
8:00 am. This is on the Black Diamond Rd (county road F-52) off of Hwy 1.
Southwest of Iowa City. This is 2- 14.5 mile fairly flat RR's. Race out 14.5,
regroup and race back. This is scored as two separate races unlike the usual
Bee Line 29 which is a combined points race.

Sunday morning is the 26.2 mile Roc Doc Road Race. This will be a 1 loop RR
with some rolling hills. Registration is at the same place as the Friday TT at
7:15 and race starts at 8:00.

You may race the whole stage race or individual stages. The more times you race
the more points you get in the helmet raffle. Cost is $13 per day. Pies, beer
and baked goods for daily category winners. All points from the weekend will
count toward the Two Bee Sunday Series. The Friday night TT will be the tie
breaker for ties in points. Chances are we will divide the categories for the
RR and send them off separately to help with scoring. You will receive 5 points
for starting plus 1 point for each person you beat.
There will not be an overall winner just category winners but by Sunday we
should know who it would have been.

At this point we have the following clubs contributing helmets. Cost per helmet
(Bell sweep or Giro pnemo) is $65 this includes shipping to the winner. Payable
to Bruce Grell of Healthy Habits on race day. Thank you to Bruce for giving us
a deal on these!
All categories will be grouped and raced on date of race based on attendance and
sponsorship.
Two Bee Racing- CAT 5
DICE/Healthy Habits- CAT 4
ATLAS/CORE- CAT 3
All9yards.com- CAT2
Bike Tech- 60+
HBA- 50+
ICCC- 40+
Decorah Cycling- women/jr
If any of these listed teams have changed their mind about sponsoring a
category, please let us know ASAP so we may combine categories as needed.

The proceeds from this race will go towards purchasing teddy bears from Build A
Bear, who gave us a great deal on the bears. The good Doc (John Meehan) will be
giving these bears to the seriously ill children at the Childrens Hospital of
Iowa City. He will be giving these little guys a friend to help them on their
difficult journey (my wish is he would never have to give one away). Just
figure each time you race you will buy a child a companion to hold on to. I
will also spring for the mini Livestrong bracelets for the bears.

This is grassroots racing for a nice cause. Fun should be had by all. If this
is not a perfect event, please help us workout the first year bugs Please be
safe and respectful of cars and property so we will be welcome back in West
Branch next year. Once again thanks to Bruce Grell, Donnie Miller, Jason Weldon
and all the clubs for bringing this together. A special thanks to Le Bon Roc
Doc (John Meehan) for all he does at the heart of the matter, he is stronger
than what can be measured in watts.

Thank you to everyone who braved the elements and came to Webster City for a
real MTB race yesterday. We had a few showers that made the course pretty
greasy in spots but, all in all, everyone had a blast riding this course.

There was a light green cooler with a shoulder strap left behind. If this is
yours let me know. If you may have found a pair of silver Oakley's laying on
the course please contact me, the owner is looking for them.

The Beginner race had some great action with Kyle Felkner (MBWC/Team 14) moving
up three spots in the final lap to take the win in a rainy affair.

The Sport race set off with fair conditions and most said the course was
perfect. With 2 laps remaining the skys opened up again and made for some
tricky riding in places. This didn't slow down Dominic Moraneic of Atlas/Core
Fitness as he led from start to finish with Todd Gillihan (Team Skin) spinning
his single speed close behind. These two were the class of the field outpacing
Jubil Young and Steven Reynolds for third and fourth. The women started 30
seconds after the men and Darcy Sanford (Team Skin) proceeded to march through
the mens feild, passing 10 of them, on her way to a commanding victory over Jane
Riessen (Mercy/Specialized).

In the Expert race the rain stayed away and the course was altered slightly
because one sections was kind of dangerous. It was evident that the Saturday
race in Nebraska may have taken a bit out of Cam Kirkpatrick (Rasmussen Bike
Shop) as he watched Nate Cline (Mercy/Specialized) ride away to his first win as
an Expert in Iowa. Kirkpatrick managed his losses finishing close to Cline but
the two distanced themselves handilly from Sean Noonan (Milltown Cycles) and
Chris Maharry (MBWC/Team 14) who were awarded third and fourth following an
unforunate flat tire inthe final lap for Andy Lueck (Mercy/Specialized).
