COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (2-0) women's volleyball squad remained
undefeated with a 3-0 (25-5, 25-7, 25-19) decision over North Carolina A&T (0-2)
Friday at the Tribe Invitational in Williamsburg, Va. OSU's Emily Danks and
Kristen Dozier shared match-high honors with 10 points each in the contest.
Emily Danks had seven kills (.636), two ace serves and two assist blocks while
Kristen Dozier recorded 10 kills (.769). Janae Mitchell had a team-high six
points/kills for the Aggies.
The Buckeyes opened set one with kills by Danks and Dozier and two Aggie errors
for a 4-0 lead. A Tiffany Mellette kill stopped the run. Two kills from Katie
Dull, kills from Dozier and Amanda Peterson and a Danks ace serve took the lead
to 10-1 as North Carolina A&T called time out. The Buckeyes continued the run
with kills by Dozier and Peterson, two from Dull and an Aggie error to take a
15-1 lead. After a Buckeye error, kills from Peterson and Dozier and two Aggie
errors made it 19-2. At 23-5, a Danks kill made it 24-5 and set point. An Aggie
error ended the game to give OSU a 25-5 set win to lead the match, 1-0. Ohio
State hit .667 for the set to .095 for North Carolina A&T.
Tied at one in set two, the Buckeyes scored the next five points to open a 6-1
lead. The run began with a Dull kill and two Aggie errors. Dozier and Dull make
it 6-1 with kills. A Breanne Dotstry kill stopped the run at 6-2. Kills by
Danks, Peterson, Dull and Dozier and an Aggie error made it 11-2. Leading, 15-5,
the Buckeyes scored the next seven points to open a 22-5 lead. The run included
two ace serves by Peterson, a Danks-Kelli Barhorst block, a Barhorst kill and
three Aggie errors. A North Carolina A&T error made it 24-6 and set point for
the Buckeyes. A Dotstry block stopped the set point at 24-7. A Dull kill ended
the game at 25-7 to give the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead in the match. Ohio State hit
.667 in the set to -.136 for the Aggies.
A 4-0 run by Ohio State opened set three. The run began with a Barhorst kill, a
Danks-Mariah Booth block, a Booth solo block and an ace serve from Barhorst.
Leading, 5-2, three consecutive Aggie errors opened an 8-2 Buckeye lead.
Trailing, 11-5, the Aggies cut the lead to three at 11-8. At 12-9, a kill and
ace serve from Danks made it 14-9. An OSU error made it 14-10. The Buckeyes took
a 16-10 lead with a Mariah Booth kill and a Booth-Anna Szerszen block. Ohio
State reached match point at 24-17 with a Danks kill. The Aggies stopped two
match points to cut the lead to five at 24-19. Peterson, with a kill, ended the
set at 25-19 for the Buckeyes to give Ohio State a 3-0 victory in the match.
For the match, Ohio State hit .516 to -.090 for North Carolina A&T. The Buckeyes
had a 39-15 margin in kills and a six-two advantage in ace serves. OSU gave up
seven service errors to six for the Aggies. Defensively, the Buckeyes had a
31-17 margin in digs with OSU's Chelsea Noble recording a match-high 12. At the
net, Ohio State had a four-to-two edge in team blocks with OSU's Booth recording
a match-high three blocks with a solo and two assists. Ohio State's Peterson
collected a match-high 26 assists in the contest. Aggie Kaneisha Winfield posted
14 assists for North Carolina A&T.
Ohio State continues play at the Tribe Invitational Saturday when they face
Maryland Eastern Shore at noon. The Buckeyes close out the Invitational at 7
