This is even true in the biggest TV sports, like the NFL -- we are forced to watch the games that the stations agree we should get, even if they are snoozers and the most exciting regular season game of the year is on TV for everyone one broadcast market away. So I guess that hoping that volleyball would be different was a pipe dream.
I won't pretend to understand the business of TV, but it seems to me that someone should be able to figure out how to broadcast at least a handful of interesting early season games to the fans of those teams. I thought that's what the BTN would do for us, but I guess not.

Because the Big Ten Network didn’t own the rights to those matches. Those matches were produced by KFVE television out of Hawaii, who owns the rights. Much like how ESPN contests won’t air on the BTN either, because they don’t own the rights. For football, the BTN is a partner with ABC, hence the coverage of old games.

Please excuse the Penn State-centric question, but just curious, does
anyone know why the BTN didn't broadcast the PSU / Hawaii or PSU /
UCLA matches?
Isn't the point of the network to show the so-called "Olympic Sports",
and if so, why not the #1 vs. #6 teams in the nation in a non-
conference matchup?
Will we be seeing any decent volleyball matches on the BTN this season?
I like having the BTN, but I honestly never watch it, because whenever
I click over to see what's on it is rarely anything interesting
(although I did rewatch the 1994 PSU / Illinois football game last
Spring).
Anyone else finding it worthwhile?
