We had 3 ball handling calls I think it was in the Cal/UCSB match on Sunday. Wonderful up ref who runs a good match. but still some additional ugly things...
Don't know that we had even one call at the earlier match on Friday. Didn't go on Sat.
I vote for going back to the old way...and furthermore I also vote for sideout scoring...

I think the stir is that it's yet another change. It seems like collegiate volleyball makes major changes every season, and just when you thought you'd figured the game out, it changes again. For fans that know the game well, we can deal with this, but I think the casual fan gets really confused.
Personally, I would have rather seen everyone else change to 30 point games rather than the NCAA changing to 25.
My reasoning is simple -- I enjoy watching volleyball, and I'd rather spend an hour watching a match instead of 5/6ths of an hour watching a match. I've said it before, and I'll say it again -- I still wish we could go back to sideout scoring to 15. That's volleyball.
Actually given this topic thread about what people thought of this rule change, I'm more interested to note if anyone saw the "athletic play" rule come into play -- did that have any effect on a match anyone saw (assuming anyone was actually able to see a match in person or on TV, which we weren't able to do for PSU except for those lucky enough to go to Hawaii)?

I'm not sure why there's such a stir about this. Since rally scoring was adopted by the USAV and FIVB, games have been to 25 domestically and internationally. In all USAV JO and high school competitions I've seen games have been to 25. The only place games went to 30 was in American college ball.
Now that these players are in college, the difference is -- there's no difference.
