Penn State Women's Volleyball Announces 2004 Schedule
Matchups with Stanford and Brigham Young highlight non-conference slate

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa., May 13, 2004 - Matches against nine teams that competed in the 2003 NCAA Tournament, including four that finished the season ranked among the top 25 teams in the nation, highlight the 2004 Penn State women's volleyball schedule.

Stanford, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois ended the 2003 season ranked in the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 poll while Brigham Young, San Francisco, Northwestern, Michigan and Michigan State also received bids to last season's NCAA Tournament.

Penn State holds a 312-67 record over opponents it will face in the 2004 season, including a 221-39 Big Ten record since joining the conference in 1991. The schedule also features a first-time meeting in women's volleyball, as the Nittany Lions will take on Eastern Washington for the first time in series history.

The Nittany Lions host two preseason tournaments and travel to one for their non-conference schedule. Rutgers, Quinnipiac and Brigham Young travel to Happy Valley on Sept. 3-4 for the Penn State Invitational before the Nittany Lions head west to the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 10-11 for matches with San Francisco, Eastern Washington and the host Cardinal. Penn State closes out its preseason slate with the Penn State Classic on Sept. 17-18 with contests against Maryland-Baltimore County, Yale and West Virginia.

The Big Ten schedule opens Sept. 24 at Northwestern before the Nittany Lions take on Wisconsin on Sunday, Sept. 26 at 1:00 p.m. CT. Iowa and Minnesota visit Penn State on Oct. 1-2 for the first conference home weekend and Michigan and Michigan State travel to Happy Valley on Oct. 15-16 with Ohio State coming to town on Wednesday, Oct. 20. Penn State closes out the home Big Ten schedule on Nov. 20 against Illinois and finishes out the regular-season at Michigan State and Michigan on Nov. 26-27.
