Not sure (although it would be an interesting exercise to go back, say, 5
years and compare coaches' pre-season with real outcomes). The coaches I
know well tend to downplay their own squads a bit pre-season. I'd say,
pre-season polling is an inexact science at best - in-season injuries,
matchups, rookies who blossom, veterans who tank, and all the rest of the
uncontrollable human factors add up to, often, much more than the
progostication ability of coaches (or anyone else, for that matter)!
