Hi Joan - I roller bladed for about three years at some point during the last decade.   My advice is to make sure you get comfortable on your own before attempting to take a leashed dog with you.  The falls hurt, and happen often enough without a dog.  At least in the beginning.  Another tip - learn on a fairly flat area.  Downhills are scary till you get used to them.
