We have missed seeing your smiling, helmeted, and sunglassed faces, but you arenever far from our thoughts. Thank you to all who participated in ourlittle online surveys - we value your input and are giddy with excitement forthe 2009 season. We have many new 'destination' rides planned forrecreational riding fans and some yummy hills and long hauls for those eager toget big and strong. And that's just the start of it - stay tuned for muchmore.
We'll kick off our season with our annual Crankcicles ride on SundayFebruary 15th at 10am at Forest Park. Crankcicles is our cycling versionof the polar bear club. We bundle ourselves up and take a lap aroundForest Park appearing to be a parade of Michelin Men on wheels. Then itsoff to a cozy spot in the Central West End for something to warm our tummies.Oh, and did mention you get...wait for it...a BUTTON!
Times are challenging these days for many. Fortunately cycling is an activitythat, after your initial investment of a bike and helmet, you can enjoy atvirtually no cost. Big Crank Cycling is waiving membership dues for 2009. You can download the application and waiver from the files section of our website at www.bigcrankcycling.com. We do not want cost to keep you and your friends from biking or joining our club. What a great year tobring on friend or two to the club. We plan to reinstate membership dues in 2010 - fyi:)
Some of you have asked about a banquet. We regret that it was not in thecards this year. After evaluating our options and club interest, wedetermined that the best use of the time and club funds would be to invest inour 2009 season. There was also not sufficient interest in spinningclasses, but we encourage you to check out St. Louis Spinning and sign up for agreat class. You can find them at: www.stlouisspinning.com.
We can keep riding all winter. Feel free to use the message board to say,"Hey, it's going to be a balmy 40 degrees tomorrow - anyone want to rideGrants Trail?" or other ride ideas. Remember that if it is not anofficial Big Crank Cycling ride you are on your own to organize and staysafe. We, of course, urge you to always wear your helmet - whether withBig Crank or on your own.
In addition, do not forget to check out the great stocking stuffer deals at one of our many corporate sponsors including: BigShark Bicycle Company, Gentle Strength Massage, Hartford Community Café and ourvery own Big Crank Blend of beans, In Motion Health Center, LafayetteChiropractic, and The Vital Voice.
So - with all that news there is just one more thing to say. HappyHolidays to each and every one - may you find joy, peace, and two-wheeledadventures in the year to come.
