I have cut off the front frame of a sweet '75 Eldo, and plan to run
the complete Eldo suspension, a tunnel-rammed 500, and the THM425 in
the REAR of my tinted 1990 760 Volvo wagon (invisibly!). My winter
project is to build a new engine / trans / suspension cradle to bring
the stock-length control arms and wheel mounting surfaces 9-10"
closer together.
I have the pieces in the shop, and rough measurements make it all
seem possible, as long as the new frame rails go over and under the
control arm pick-up points, rather than inside, to allow space for
the engine (I don't need to steer the wheels, obviously). The
closest to interference seems to be the lower rear drivers side
control arm pivot and the trans shifter lever, but I can work around
this.
My goal is to keep and use all the freshened Eldo suspension, with
its attendant adjustability, and GM brake pieces, only closer
together (with a new, narrower anti-roll bar, and fixed tie-rod
struts for correct bump-steer), and keep my existing Volvo track
width and alloy wheels - no flares, thank you very much. Half-shafts
shouldn't be a problem; they don't need to be CV type anymore.
Anyway, this is kind of wordy, but has anyone done something
similar? Have any advice? This is to be a daily driver and Q-ship -
I'm 40 with three kids!
