One of Ken's biggest worries was what would happen to his website after he
died. Legally, all of the files belong to his son now. When I talked to
his sister, she gave me her address and suggested I write a letter to his
son and she would give it to him. I'll offer to do everything I can to
keep his website alive. Unfortunately, I haven't learned html yet -- Ken
was about to teach me. I've been working on a website of my own, which
won't be ready for a while, as I've still got a lot more writing to do. I
will dedicate my website to Ken's memory.
Little things keep hitting me. On the way home I realized there would
never be any more chapters of The New World. He didn't talk about it that
much here because it wasn't really bicycling related, but he really hoped
people would read it and borrow some of the ideas and start to live like
that. It was his utopian vision, and he wasn't finished writing it. He
told me what some of his ideas were for upcoming chapters, and I'd even
been copying some articles out of magazines to send him for background
information. His upcoming trip had been to do research for the story.
But now it's all unfinished. There won't be any more chapters. There's
so much left unsaid.
The drunk driver who hit Ken at around 8 pm Saturday had gotten out of
jail 4 hours earlier for drunk driving. He was sober when he got out. I
guess the first thing he did was go start drinking.
