Fw: Road Sign Survey   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #13029 of 13257 |

A group of biking advocates from around the country have recommended
to federal regulatory officials that the highway signing for bicycle
routes be made more consistent. This includes all guide,
identification, warning and regulation signs. This group is making a
presentation to an advisory panel to the Federal Highway
Administration on January 8, 2009. If you can take the linked on-line
survey before next Wednesday, it will help this group better
understand which graphics are most easily comprehended.

I took the survey, and I have issues with many parts of it.  First, a cyclists field of view is different from a motorists - cyclists tend to look at fewer...

My favourite sign was the green sign on the telephone pole, with an arrow pointing up, and placed in between a row of parked cars and the sidewalk.   They...

That was more entertaining than I thought it would be. The more amusing portions were the cyclist riding against traffic, since it also allowed me to toss in...

Actually, I spend one week each year in Amsterdam where I ride - they have that sign with the bicycle with the red prohibited slash through it.  When I first...

Mark, Maybe we need signs worldwide that are consistent. I never would have thought that this sign would indicate the end of a bike path. "When I first saw...

We encountered some of these "Cycling Prohibited" signs in Ontario, this past summer. They were always placed AFTER an intersection or interchange and there...

About the only signs I felt would be at all helpful would be the ones that remind motorists, that cyclists are legally entitled to use the full lane. (both...

I found the survey very frustrating.  As many as half the questions in the first quarter of it  presented a choice between undesirable options.  The...
