Dear Pedal Pushers;
Every year in St. Augustine, Florida, there is a Gamble Rogers Folk Music
Festival. It is at the start of May and lasts three days. See
GambleFest.com.
Next year, because of global warming, the price of gasoline, and the
personal preferences of the late Gamble Rogers, we would like to have a huge
number of bicyclers attend on their bikes. There is a large camping area at
the fairgrounds where the festival is held. We would give a substantial
discount on the tickets to anyone who arrives by bicycle. In addition, the
beach is near, as are other beautiful areas that could be used for day trips
if soneone does not like good quality folk music. We hope to have sponsors
lined up, like the National Kidney Foundation, to use the day trips as fund
and awareness raisers for their particular foundation's work.
There is an incompleted bike trail between Gainesville, Florida and St.
Augustine that we plan on having finished by next year, so you would be able
to toodle back and forth between those places without a problem.
Please send me suggestions on how to best contact the most bicyclers around
the planet so we can make this a healthy celebration of Gamble and of a
quality life. Other suggestions, like what to be sure we have at the
festival for bikers comfort, are much desired.
Dwight Hines
