RE: [bicycling_in_gso] Gear and Spokes starting time

Boy, was I ever glad to see the G&S Ride change their start time!  I'm sick to death of having to get up at the crack of ridiculous, skip my breakfast, my coffee (and my "morning constitutional"), drive way over to Country Park --  just to get on a bike in the cold damp air.  I hate having to put on a bunch of layers that I'm just going to have to later strip, and then figure out how to carry the rest of the ride, because there'll be a 30 degree swing in temperatures.  I don't go to church, but at least by 12:30pm the ChurchPeople will have already busted out and headed for the K&W.  So, since Mickey isn't coming this year, I'll be his replacement because I've never bothered with this ride - it started to danged early and it's always been cold on April mornings.

I happen to LOVE hot, sunny weather on a bike.  I look forward to cycling in about 7oz. of clothing, with a nice even coating of Coppertone Sport.  I actually like ending up as a salt lick.

That said, will someone please tell the Gears & Spokes Folks that the 66-mile cue sheet (at least the version posted to Cycles de Oro's website) is WRONG WRONG WRONG!!   It's scary, it's so WRONG.  PLEASE take a drive if you have to -- you've got people turning onto roads at intersections that don't exist!  Ironworks Rd. does NOT intersect Pannell Road in no way, shape or form, nor does it EVER cross Hwy 704.   And that's not the only error -- it's just WAAAAY WRONG in lots of places.

Mary

Why in the world do they have the 66 mile ride starting as late as
12:30? That is the time when it starts to get very hot and the sun is
beating down on the riders and the time when this ride should be
finishing. This makes no sense. I have never started such a lengthy
ride that late in the day. The rides usually start at 7:30 AM giving
the riders the cool of the morning and making the ride more enjoyable
which is not what is being done here. I was going to participate but
once I found out the starting time, forget it. This is asinine.

I do not care to hear any apologetic explanation of why it is starting
at this time. I do not care to hear that people go to church first and
church does not end till noon. What I do want to hear is next year we
will start at 7:30 AM or we will change it to saturday so people can
go to church. CHANGE THE STARTING TIME OF THIS BIKE RIDE FOR HEAVENS SAKE.
