Hi folks:
With a lot of nice weather peeping in, excitement in the world bicycling is quick to follow!
Quick reminders of cool stuff coming up:
- Greensboro Velo Club monthly meeting (everyone is invited, member or not!) this Monday, March 5th at Hamm's Restaurant Lakeside, 688 East Cone Blvd. Eat (optional) at 6:45pm, meeting starts at 7:30pm Greensboro Parks & Recreation staff members will get us up to date on present & future trails in and around Greensboro. We already have an enviable situation compared to other cities and with the help of these folks, it will be getting better! See you there!
- A huge, gigantic, humongus... BIG meeting (that's Bicycling In Greensboro, our advocacy group) will kick off the season on Thursday, March 15.. Movie, speakers, networking, refreshments, all to get the year rolling! Again, please come and support this effort that benefits all of us!

- This past week, the Greensboro Velo Club announced it's popular (and unique) Up2Speed series. This is a run of road rides that are expressly for new riders or folks getting back into riding after them taking a loooong sabbatical! No one gets dropped, the rides start short and slow and progress as the participants improve. Everyone is welcome to come, no memberships or fees, Free! Members of the Greensboro Velo Club assist and guide, and hope attendees will end up joining our club! The first ride is on Sat April 14th at cycles de ORO and they continue to Sunday May 27th. By then, all the diligent participants should be secure and capable of doing their personal best in any rides, local or beyond! Here is the schedule: http://www.cyclesdeoro.com/up2speed.htm
- And then at the end of the month, Sunday March 25th, the famous Rites of Spring event.. This year will be a really new and exciting approach, a road ride (different distances offered) plus a mountain bike ride, all in the new North East Park. This will allow a whole range of previously un ridden road routes and a chance to try out the new trails just established by the GSO Fat Tire Society! We will have the Specialized demo FSR mountain bikes out there and a great lunch for all the cyclists, dirt and pavement! Don't miss this one!
OK, now time for some other topics.....!
Following up on the Floyd Landis situation...
There is a lot of confusion surrounding this controversy with a surprising amount of evidence leading to optimism for Floyd's case. I received some very interesting responses from you on this, I have published a selection (leaving the writers' anonymity intact) take a look here:
http://www.cyclesdeoro.com/floyd.htm
Now we all have to watch and see how this all comes out. Will Floyd win eventually and still have been cheated out of not only the Tour de France win but this season and possibly his entire career? Who does he sue if that's the case? Stay tuned...
Here is something amazing to me.. Look at the creativity, nothing like it has been seen since the beginning of the mountain bike scene in the early 1980s... The North American Handmade Bicycle Show! This show has just finished up today in San Jose CA (last day today) The innovation and showmanship on display is amazing and encouraging... To think all this talent and ingenuity is being applied to bicycling!
Start here and look at the basket & detailing on this practical city bicycle:
