Experience Pedal Power During The
Piedmont Triad Bike-to-Work Week
Bike to Work Week helps
to:
· Increase
public awareness for cyclists
· Educate
the community about the benefits of bicycling as a form of transportation
· Make
information about bicycle commuting available to potential riders
· Encourage
people to try bicycle commuting.
During the month of May, local
cyclist shops, bicycle enthusiasts, advocacy groups and government agencies
will be hosting free educational clinics on topics such as maintaining your
bike, basic ride skills and commuter tips at various Triad locations. During
Bike to Work Week, refueling stations will be provided to commuting bicyclists where
they can take a breather over free coffee, feast in

from the Piedmont Triad Council of Governments' PedPower website at www.pedpower.org. PedPower was created to
support bicycling and walking throughout the region. Working
cooperatively with local jurisdictions, the program provides technical
assistance, shares information, and identifies opportunities to improve
accommodations for bicyclists and pedestrians.
"PedPower provides a one-stop resource for bicyclists who are just
starting out as well as more experienced commuters," said
Bicycle month comes as the area moves into the final month of the Triad Commute
Challenge, which began March 4 and ends May 31. Participants pledge to try
alternative commuting options by signing the pledge form at www.triadair.org. Last year, more than
1,000 Triad residents pledged to carpool, vanpool, ride the bus, bike, walk or
telecommute.

The Piedmont Triad Council of Governments is a voluntary association of
local governments that has been working to address the diverse urban and rural
issues in the central piedmont region for nearly 40 years. The Council of
Governments provides a range of technical services to its members, including
