I had a chance to attend the North American Handmade Bicycle Show in Portland,
OR. As cool as all the bikes were (and you can see some here:
http://tinyurl.com/356xmn), the truly interesting part of the experience was
seeing how integral cycling is to transportation and the city's culture. There,
cycling isn't a transportation alternative -- it's pretty mainstream. Everywhere
I went I saw bikes of all kinds - fixies, townies, Italian road bikes with
fenders, Schwinns with banana seats, bmx bikes, and more - being used to get
around town.
If you haven't ever been there, go. And take a bike.
