Annual Ride for Bikes   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #48 of 261 |
Each year since 1999 I have ridden my bicycle in support of the
Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots "Bikes or Bust" program. You may
remember from past years that the Albany Radio Staion B-100 (100.3
FM) each year has a crane lift an RV up above the Wal Mart Parking
lot and a DJ and a Marine go up in it for 100 hours.

The idea is to collect as much money and bicycles as possible during
the 100 hours they are up there. These bicycles are given to
children who would likely never get a new bike without this program.
Virtually always the bikes from this program are the first new bike
that these children will receive, possibly the only new bike they
receive.

Do you remember your first new bike? If so then you can definitely
understand.

Each year the ride begins on Wednesday at the site of the RV,
usually the Albany Georgia Super Walmart. Then it goes to Sylvester
and on to Moultrie the first day. The last day is usually a ride
from Moultrie to Albany beginning early in the morning and leaving
from the "Hog Pen" (Colquitt County High School Packers Stadium)near
Willie J. Williams Middle School. Thursday and Friday ride plans
have not been completed yet, but one day will likely be in and
around Tifton and one will be near or around Ocilla Georgia.

It is a relatively slow ride about 10 mph average overall. Some
great riding in some of the most beautiful country in Georgia or
anywhere in the US. Ride with me and you will also meet some of the
most generous and finest people in the US also.

December 10, 11, 12, 13 will be dates for the ride. Contact me at
229-891-2879 or email me at bmgfitness@...

Have a great day and keep riding,

Jerry Goodwin
