I actually do like riding to work in the rain as long as I have proper
gear. It adds a little variety, and makes me focus more on the ride.
Different strokes for different folks!

I bought commute year round in DC. I don't like riding to work in the
rain, but if I have to, I will.
I've got a rainproof bike messenger backpack from Vaude. I usually
see Ottlieb's version of the same backpack stocked in bike shops, but
the Vaude is just better. They've got a website with waterprooof
panniers as well.
Also, I've got booties to cover my feet.
The main problem with riding to work in the rain is getting back into
wet clothes for the ride home. The second problem is bike maintenance
- keeping the drive change clean. Riding in the rain forces you to do
a cleaning sooner.
